Liga 14/15 J12| Boavista 1-3 SPORTING| Bessa, 05.12.2014, 21:30 CET

Primeira Liga 2014/2015

Jornada 12

Estádio do Bessa, Porto, 05.12.2014, 21:30 CET
Ref: Jorge Sousa (AF Porto)

vs

Boavista 1-3 SPORTING CP
(Jonathan Silva 87' OG; Carrillo 54', Carlos Mané 56', João Mário 81')

It must be difficult for Marco Silva to convince the players not to think of next Tuesday's game at Stamford Bridge and focus only on today's return to Estádio do Bessa but that's what they really need to do. We can't afford losing any more points and I'm sure everbody at the club is well aware of that.

The whole main squad was called, with the exception of Jefferson who is recovering from a knock. Jonathan Silva will be the LB.

Bessa was during decades a bogus stadium for Sporting, so much so that stats say that it is a harder place for us to win than Luz. Adding to that we should expect the usual aggressive style from the hosts, something that already gave them one point against Porto and, if it wasn't for the "325th clean goal disallowed by a distracted linesman", would have also given them one point against Benfica. Full alert then.

One word still to an historical fact that needs to be stressed in golden letters. This will be the 300th match of our great captain Rui Patrício with Sporting's shirt. An impressive number of a great sportinguista.

Rui saving a penalty on his first match for Sporting's first team at Marítimo.

One of the many huge saves against Chelsea in Alvalade in this season's CL.

Marco Silva called the following 20 players:

Goalkeepers:
1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders:
41 Cédric, 26 Paulo Oliveira, 29 Naby Sarr, 3 Maurício, 13 Miguel Lopes and 33 Jonathan Silva.

Midfielders:
23 Adrien, 14 William Carvalho, 8 André Martins, 24 Uri Rosell and 17 João Mário.

Forwards and Wingers:
11 Diego Capel, 18 Carrillo, 9 Slimani, 36 Carlos Mané, 77 Nani, 19 Tanaka and 10 Fredy Montero.

First half goal chance at 18' with Nani connecting very well with Montero but the shot was at the keeper.

At 29' Nani wastes a great chance but worst than that is the fact that he pulled a muscle and will need to be subbed. Nightmare.

In one minute two huge goal chances for Sporting.

First a great cross by Miguel Lopes and Slimani heading against the post.

Montero shoots just wide right after it.

Scrappy first half, just like Boavista would like it. We didn't manage to attack as well and as quickly as we did in the last couple of matches, partly because Boavista, as expected, defends deep with loads of people in their last third, but also thanks to some lack of attacking intent from our full backs and a clearly under par Nani. It seemed from kick off that he didn't look 100% and probably this injury was something he was carrying before. The truth is that is a big blow for us in this crucial moment of the season but we'll have to deal with it.

Carrillo actually improved our game upfront and it was from his flank that came the cross for the biggest goal chance of the first half with Slimani's free header incredibly hitting the post.

Montero, again, is having a very good game, showing that this is no Plan B.

We need to speed up and we need to use more the flanks because this defence can be broken.

Sporting wins the ball in our midfield, William launches a great pass to Carrillo who turns on the turbo and destroys the back of the net. 1-0 at 55'

What a fantastic raid by Carrillo on the right flank taking two defenders on a slalom and offering the goal on a golden plate to Carlos Mané who finished with coolness between the legs of the keeper.

2-0 at 57'. CARRILLO SHOW!
