Liga 14/15 J10| SPORTING 1-1 P. Ferreira | Alvalade, 09.11.2014, 19:00 CET

Primeira Liga 2014/2015

Jornada 10

Estádio José Alvalade, 09.11.2014, 19:00 CET
Ref: Bruno Esteves (AF Setúbal)

vs

SPORTING CP 1-1 Paços de Ferreira
(Fredy Montero 49'; Hurtado 32')

After that festival of good attacking football in the Champions League on Wednesday we are back in the league to host a side that is currently one point ahead of us in the table. That should never happen because Paços is Paços and Marco Silva made sure to remind everybody about it in yesterday's pre-match press conference. If we want to have any real ambitions of fighting for the title we have to win games like this and that's the spirit of someone working at Sporting.

It seems the good game of Naby Sarr against Schalke will probably make him keep the place that used to be of Maurício in the centre of our defence. The same should happen with Jefferson and probably Slimani.

Marco Silva called the following 20 players for the game:

Goalkeepers:
1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders:
41 Cédric, 13 Miguel Lopes, 3 Maurício, 26 Paulo Oliveira, 29 Naby Sarr, 33 Jonathan Silva and 4 Jefferson.

Midfielders:
14 William Carvalho, 23 Adrien, 8 André Martins, 17 João Mário and 24 Uri Rosell.

Forwards and Wingers:
11 Diego Capel, 18 Carrillo, 10 Fredy Montero, 9 Slimani, 77 Nani and 36 Carlos Mané.

Only one change from the starting XI that beat Schalke with Carrillo in the place of Carlos Mané.

On the bench: 22 Marcelo Boeck, 3 Maurício, 33 Jonathan Silva, 24 Oriol Rosell, 11 Diego Capel, 10 Fredy Montero and 36 Carlos Mané.

7th in the league atm. Pretty shite for a club of Sporting's stature. When is your coach going to give Tanaka an opportunity. Earlier in the season he came off the bench and assisted a goal but hasn't been seen since.

It's incredible how easy our refs give yellow to our players. alm:

Yes, our problem is Tanaka's lack of playing time.

Josh: always present in Sporting's forum when we play bad. Never present in hiw own team's forum when his own team plays bad.

Why did Sporting sign Tanaka? Marketing? The Japanese aren't interested in a player who contributes jack shit to a team, they're interested in players who actually start and contribute for their clubs.

Very disappointing first half with our team looking very slow, perhaps even tired. Pacos is a fairly good team and are obviously motivated after coming from 4 straight wins but this score line has more to do with our own incapacity of playing our game than to the problems posed by Pacos. Nani and Adrien are playing at half of their usual speed and the passing of our midfield has been really poor.

Maybe Marco Silva is paying for the lack of rotation, that same rotation that has been criticized in other top teams of our football.

We've came back before from negative results this season - we did last Wednesday against a much stronger team - but we have to step on the gas if we want to get anything from this one.

I don't care about Tanaka, Jeff. We have been playing really well upfront so far this season and he simply is a good player that may be used when necessary which is not the case right now. If he was a CB then I would say something different but we have much better options for his posiition.

A fantastic shot some 35 metres away from goal right down on the bottom corner of PF's goal. Great goal by El Avioncito.
