Liga 14/15 J3| Benfica 1-1 SPORTING| Luz, 31.08.2014, 20:00 CET

Primeira Liga 2014/2015

Jornada 3

Estádio da Luz, 31.08.2014, 20:00 CET
Ref: Pedro Proença (AF Lisboa)
61,835 att.

vs

Benfica 1-1 SPORTING CP
(Gaitan 12'; Slimani 20')

O Derby arrives this season exactly at the same time of last season with the difference being that now we are the visitors. Comparing with last year apart from the change of coach our first XI will not differ a lot on the contrary to what will surely happen with our opponents. Both teams are still far from their peak and although Sporting does need to win the matches against our direct opponents in the title race the pressure is in this game more on the shoulders of the hosts.

We'll be missing Cédric due to injury but apart from that everybody else is available.

Here's the starting XI picked by Marco Silva:

1 Rui Patricio
47 Ricardo Esgaio - 3 Mauricio - 29 Naby Sarr - 4 Jefferson
41 William Carvalho
8 André Martins - 23 Adrien
18 Carrillo - 9 Slimani - 77 Nani

Slimani returns to the squad and gets directly into the first XI. William is back after his one match suspension.

FORÇA SPORTING!!!

Danger on both ends thanks to dead ball situations. Tackles flying. Game on!

12' 1-0 to Benfica by Gaitan after a good attacking combination with Slavio and Lima.

King Artur kicks the ball against Carrillo's back and Slimani confirms with a header. Deserved equalizer at 21'.

Fantastic display by Sporting in this first half against a good Benfica as well. Benfica started strong scoring on their first goal chance from open play but Sporting reacted immediately pressing very high and reaching the equalizer thanks to that pressure. After that practically only Sporting created danger limiting Benfica to the odd counter. Carrillo is OWNING whoever gets on his way and if Nani gets more in the game it'll be difficult to stop us.

Benfica 1 - Artur 1

Benfica was the better team until Artur..sorry, Slimani scored afterwards, Sporting balanced it out

whatever it may happen, if JJ doesnt bench that man at HT, he may as well resign

best players so far, Salvio for Benfica, Carrillo for Sporting tied with Artur

good game so far, very open ,should be an exciting 2nd half

I guess it was Artur's fault everytime Carrillo passed your defenders. :rollani:

come on my dear....that was the worst goalie blunder i have seen in my team...ever

what he did is beyond excuse, its a complete lack of focus, he has given us many blunders over the past 2 seasons, and he missed quite a few today aswell ( slimani's header that hit mauricio's back, just to mention one), but that one....all he had to do was to kick is ball, safely to the front.....either a long ball or a short one coz there was a defender of ours in front of him...but no, he had a brain stoppage and gave u that goal...no excuse for what he did, he may even save 10 penalties today, he has to go
