Liga 14/15 J2| SPORTING 1-0 Arouca| Alvalade, 23.08.2014, 21:30 CET

Primeira Liga 2014/2015

Jornada 2

Estádio José Alvalade, 23.08.2014, 21:30 CET
Ref: Nuno Almeida (AF Algarve)
37,722 att.

vs

SPORTING CP 1-0 FC Arouca
(Carlos Mané 90'+3')

It's the first home game in the league this season and also the first game played by Nani after his recent return to the club. No wonder that with these two ingredients a humongous crowd is expected to fill Alvalade today. In spite of the stumble in the first game, spirits keep being high at Sporting so we have everything to get the first win of the season.

Marco Silva called the following 20 players:

Goalkeepers:
1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders:
47 Ricardo Esgaio, 3 Maurício, 26 Paulo Oliveira, 29 Naby Sarr, 4 Jefferson and 33 Jonathan Silva.

Midfielders:
24 Uri Rosell, 23 Adrien, 32 Slavchev, 17 João Mário and 8 André Martins.

Forwards and Wingers:
18 Carrillo, 36 Carlos Mané, 11 Diego Capel, 20 Heldon, 77 Nani, 10 Fredy Montero and 19 Tanaka.

Nani, Slavchev and Jonathan Silva all getting their first call. Ricardo Esgaio is expected to replace the injured Cédric as RB and Rosell should come in for the suspended William at the DM spot. Lots of expectation of course on whether Nani is going to start.

Sporting started strong as expected creating a couple of really dangerous goal chances in the first 15'-20'. After that Arouca managed to close better our midfield and from then on we've been showing the same symptoms of this early stage of the season. The midfield was not intense enough, particularly André Martins, and Rosell is clearly a much less bold DM than William.

On the good side we saw Jefferson combining well with Nani on the left flank while on the other side Esgaio also tried to link up with Carrillo but looked a bit too hesitant at times. Montero really needs to score a goal as he is clearly going through that bad karma period that all forwards pass through when staying too long without scoring a goal.

Marco Silva makes the first change at HT:

Carlos Mané IN for Rosell

Attacking sub, no doubt about that.

At 47' Carlos Mané is kicked inside the box and the ref waves on. Clear penalty.

Incredible stuff at minute 63. Penalty for us for a clear handball by Balliu who was on a yellow. The ref gives the pen but doesn't send the player off.

Instead of Adrien, who usually scores from the spot, it's Nani to do it but the keeper saves against the post.

Incredible chance for Mané at 87' with the ball hitting the back of a defender on the floor very close to the goal line. That player is Balliu who should have been sent off a while ago.

Jefferson crossed, once again dangerously, Carrillo wins the ball in the air, Tanaka hits the post and Carlos Mané taps in. 1-0 at 90'+3'
