Liga 13/14 R29| Nacional 1-1 SPORTING| Choupana, 03.05.2014, 19:30 CET

Liga Portuguesa 2013/2014

Round 29

Estádio da Choupana, Funchal, 03.05.2014, 19:30 CET
Ref: Rui Costa (AF Porto)

vs

Nacional 1-1 SPORTING CP

This league is decided so there is no pressure for this game. Jardim warned that we're not yet on holidays and I hope the players are thinking in the same lines. Slimani seems to be one up for this game as he said on an interview this week that he'll really be looking forward to get a goal against this lot, as when he did it in Alvalade he was robbed of it by the now infamous Manuel Lampião Mota.

We'll be missing two starters, Marcos Rojo and Adrien, both suspended, it is expected that Eric Dier and probably Gérson Magrão will replace them in the starting XI.

Jardim also called the young promising Brazilian creative midfielder Wallyson Mallmann and the Egyptian wizzard Shikabala but I'm not sure if any of them will make their debut for the first team today.

Here is the list of 19 players called by Leonardo Jardim:

Goalkeepers:
1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders:
41 Cédric, 3 Maurício, 15 Eric Dier, 4 Jefferson and 30 Iván Piris.

Midfielders:
14 William Carvalho, 8 André Martins, 10 Gérson Magrão, 11 Diego Capel, 18 Carrillo, 42 Wallyson Mallmann and 36 Carlos Mané.

Forwards:
9 Slimani, 17 Fredy Montero, 28 Wilson Eduardo, 20 Héldon and 7 Shikabala.

Cédric's cross to Slimani is wonderfully sliced in by Nacional's RB. 1-0 for us at 39'

Great chance for the second at 42' with Slimani escaping the offside trap and offering Magrão the chance to tap in but he wasted it.

At 44' Magrão almost scores again but the shot went just a bit wide off the post.

A nice first half with both teams going for it not looking like they are at the end of a long season. Sporting is clearly missing Adrien in the middle and maybe because of it it has constantly only using the flanks to attack. Capel has been more active than Carrillo but it was from the right flank that our goal ended up coming. In the back Dier is doing a great game replacing very well Rojo.

What a chance for Slimani at 58' wasting over the bar after a great work by Capel on the left.

Nacional scoring out of nowhere when Sporting seemed to be in complete control of the game.

On added time Eric Dier has a good chance with a header well saved by the keeper.

The lack of intensity that we've showed in this last third of the season whenever in the lead was finally punished. We actually started the second half well and could have scored the second goal, that surely would have given us the 3 points, but the way we slowed the pace of the game afterwards was decisive to give Nacional a chance to equalize. Missing Adrien in the midfield was also tough for a team that lacked alternatives in the midfield throughout the season, something that really needs to be addressed for the coming season.

Fortunately none of the players that were on the verge of suspension were booked today so we will have everybody available for the last match of the season next week in Alvalade against Estoril.
