Liga 13/14 R27| SPORTING 2-0 Gil Vicente| Alvalade, 12.04.2014, 21:15 CET

Liga Portuguesa 2013/2014

Round 27

Estádio José Alvalade, 12.04.2014, 21:15 CET
Ref: Bruno Esteves (AF Setúbal)

vs

SPORTING CP 2-0 Gil Vicente

This is on paper probably the easiest of the 4 matches left to play in this league and exactly because of it we shouldn't take it lightly. We're coming from 4 straight wins, which equals our best series this season, and our opponents have failed to win in the last 4 matches. They are practically safe from relegation but we still have a lot to play for.

There are no injuries and no players suspended on our side and also no surprises in the call.

William Carvalho will receive during half time the double prize of Best Player of the Month and Best Young Player of the Month, both referring to March 2014.

Leonardo Jardim called the following players:

Goalkeepers:
1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders:
41 Cédric, 3 Maurício, 15 Eric Dier, 4 Jefferson and 5 Marcos Rojo.

Midfielders:
23 Adrien, 10 Gérson Magrão, 14 William Carvalho, 6 Vítor, 8 André Martins, 11 Diego Capel, 28 Wilson Eduardo and 18 Carrillo.

Forwards:
17 Fredy Montero, 9 Slimani, 20 Héldon and 36 Carlos Mané.

Great combination on the right between Cédric and Carrillo with the Peruvian making a killer cross to the Tower from Algeria. Great start.

Superb pass by William to Carrillo who sits his marker on the floor inside the box but was unable to finish.

Complete domination from Sporting in this first half. We started with a bang thanks to a great combination on the right flank between Cédric and Carrillo and to a great finish by Slimani. If the combinations between those two have continued in an excellent way through the rest of the game, their crosses haven't been able to find our forward or any of the other central attacking midfielders and that's the main reason why we only scored once. We should be up by 3 or 4 but there must be a better coordination inside the box. Gil Vicente was completely toothless as expected.

It's incredible how easy it is for these motherfecking refs to give yellow cards to our players. FFS.

Quality counter with Montero combining with Carrillo who got his second assist of the game serving a perfect pass to the first goal for Sporting by Heldon, his 10th of the season.

On the contrary to the first half Sporting did not start well in this second half and it never really managed to find enough calm to take complete control of the game. Fortunately Gil Vicente kept being completely harmless and never caused any trouble to our backline. Jardim did well in subbing Mané, who showed not being really fit to start, but perhaps he should have brought in Montero earlier as our attacking game clearly improved when the Colombian came in. Nice to see Heldon finally scoring for us.

We added one more win to this very good season, made one more step towards our objectives and spoiled tomorrow's "festa do colinho" in Aveiro.

another good win, its amazing what this team does with academy players, cheap investments, and Portuguese talent

Lets remind ourselves of all the Referee interventions in the middle of the season to bring us down from first place, and the fact that unlike others, we play away games and do not switch them to other stadiums.
