Liga 13/14 R26| P. Ferreira 1-3 SPORTING| Mata Real, 05.04.2014, 21:15 CET

Liga Portuguesa 2013/2014

Round 26

Estádio da Mata Real, Paços de Ferreira, 05.04.2014, 21:15 CET
Ref: Carlos Xistra (AF Castelo Branco)

vs

Paços de Ferreira 1-3 SPORTING CP

Sporting's last trip to the North this season will surely be a tough one. We'll be facing an in form team that seems to be escaping relegation under the leadership of the newborn Bébé. Paços is always a tough ground to play and if we add the facts that the pitch will be in its usual potato field state and the ref will be the infamous Xistra then we have all the needed ingredients to a very rough ride.

In spite of all this Sporting is coming from a long streak of positive results and, apart from the game at Porto, we did win all the matches played in the North this season, almost all of them against better teams than this one.

The big news in Jardim's call for this game is Ricardo Esgaio, who sees his good performances with the B team once again compensagted with an A team call. Let's see if he at least gets a place on the bench.

Here's the list of 19 players called by Leonardo Jardim:

Goalkeepers:
1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders:
41 Cédric, 3 Maurício, 15 Eric Dier, 4 Jefferson and 5 Marcos Rojo.

Midfielders:
23 Adrien, 14 William Carvalho, 8 André Martins, 6 Vítor, 10 Gérson Magrão, 11 Diego Capel, 18 Carrillo and 47 Ricardo Esgaio.

Forwards:
9 Slimani, 17 Fredy Montero, 20 Héldon and 36 Carlos Mané.

One minute later Bébé almost equalizes but Patrício saved well.

Mané is down injured, not yet clear if he can go on.

Another solid first half from Sporting completely in control of a game that had everything to be tricky. We started strong with Carlos Mané and Capel using their speed on the flanks to serve Slimani and one minute after a double chance by the Algerian and Mané we reached the first goal thanks to a great move between William and Slimani.

Paços tried to react through their only truly good player, Bébé, but they never managed to have enough space and composure to create any real danger. Sporting kept controlling the game and it was through a corner that we reached the two goal lead thanks to a cool finish by Marcos Rojo.

It's getting harder to see anything of the game due to this fog. This is what happens when football is played in the evenings with no reason other than shit tv channels imposing it.

At 54' Bébé makes 1-2 on his 3rd or 4th shot on goal in the game. Let's hope Sporting reacts quickly.

At 71' Filipe Anunciacão sees the second yellow and his sent off. More than deserved, it should have happened earlier actually.

Jardim makes the 2nd sub:

As it's been usual in our last games, in the second half, after being ahead on the score, Sporting gave the initiative of the game to the other team. Paços managed to score once again only thanks to the quality of one player, Bébé, but Sporting reacted, as expected, and reached 3-1 thanks to a superb goal by Adrien.
That just about killed the game as Paços not only never showed enough quality to challenge us but also saw their captain being sent off after a long series of bookable offenses.

Another impressive win by this young team full of personality. One more step towards our aims.
