Liga 13/14 R23| SPORTING 1-0 Porto| Alvalade, 16.03.2014, 20:15 CET

Liga Portuguesa 2013/2014

Round 23

vs

SPORTING CP 1-0 Fruta CP

It's enough. That's what our president said in a press conference on Monday after one more unbelievable episode of the circus that is Portuguese football. He called all sportinguistas to do whatever they could to show that we can't accept being robbed anymore. As a direct reaction to this rallying call, a group of fans of our club started 'Movimento Basta!' (Enough) which will do a series of public actions to show our disagreement with the state of things in our football. The first action is taking place this afternoon outside Estádio de Alvalade with a demonstration.

At the same time that all this happened Fruta Clube do Porto kept pulling the strings. Their friends at the Referees Commission appoined Olegário Benquerença to referee this clássico, a infamous FCP fan, but as he apparently is finishing his career this season and doesn't want to do it with one more stain in his dirty CV, he claimed to be injured - a backbone problem - so, who do they call to replace him? Pedro Proenca, a man that can't help falling in love with the Blues. Nothing less than a low rate comedy really.

In football terms we need to show the same attitude of the game we played against this lot in the League Cup. We just need to finish off those goal chances and we'll be fine.

We'll be missing Maurício, who is suspended, so Eric Dier is expected to come in to his place. There are doubts whether LJ will keep Slimani in the first XI or if he'll bring back Montero. I would prefer to see us starting with the Colombian because he is a much more complete player than the Algerian but let's see what will be decided.

Leonardo Jardim called the following 19 lions for this game:

Goalkeepers: 1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders: 41 Cédric, 36 Rúben Semedo, 15 Eric Dier, 4 Jefferson and 5 Marcos Rojo.

Midfielders: 23 Adrien, 10 Gérson Magrão, 14 William Carvalho, 6 Vítor, 8 André Martins, 11 Diego Capel, 28 Wilson Eduardo and 18 Carrillo.

Forwards: 17 Fredy Montero, 9 Slimani, 20 Héldon and 36 Carlos Mané.

Proenca Take 1 - Adrien makes his first foul way inside Fruta's own half. Yellow card.

very balanced game, with both keepers having a peaceful evening

only 2 clear goal chances belonging to Porto, quaresma hitting the bar (would be a stunning goal) and clear miss from jackson martinez

A good first half, very balanced and played at a high tempo. FCP is living completely on the shoulders of the individual brilliance of Quaresma and Sporting trying to play on the counter taking advantage from the many balls recovered by our defensive players who are playing very well so far.

We've managed to create several dangerous attacks through the flanks, mainly on the left with Capel and Jefferson, but the final ball into the box was always poor. FCP had the most dangerous goal chances though, again thanks to RQ7.

My beef with Sporting playing with Slimani instead of Montero is that we too often try to launch the ball up in the air trying to take advantage of the Algerian's great quality in the air but our game gets fractured and lacks that quality that Fredy can bring into it.

Carlos Mané robs the ball in the midfield dribbles 3 defenders, is hacked by Abdoulaye and the ball goes on to Slimani who fails to finish the second.

Helton trips himself completely alone inside the penalty box and seems to be seriously injured.

Helton really needs to be subbed off and Sporting fans show their class and applaud FCP's keeper when he is stretched off.
