Taça da Liga 13/14, GS R2/ SPORTING 3-0 Marítimo / Alvalade, 14.01.2014, 20:45 CET

Taça da Liga 2013/2014 - League Cup

Second Group Stage -
Group B, Round 2

Estádio José Alvalade, 14.01.2014, 20:45 CET
Ref: Nuno Almeida (AF Algarve)
11, 321 att.

vs

SPORTING CP 3-0 Marítimo

The second match of this season's League Cup will be decisive for our future in this competition. After the goalless draw against Porto we need to beat Marítimo tonight if we want to keep hopes of winning the group and qualifying for the semis. Having in mind the criteria to qualify it will be more important to score a lot than to keep clean sheets so this is going to be a test for our attacking players.

I don't expect Jardim to field all our regular starters but the only certainty is that Marcelo Boeck will be on goal. Jefferson is back from suspension and Welder is back on the call sheet.

LJ called 21 for tonight's game:

Goalkeepers: 1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck;

Defenders: 41 Cédric, 5 Marcos Rojo, 3 Maurício, 4 Jefferson, 15 Eric Dier, 30 Iván Piris and 2 Welder;

Midfielders: 14 William Carvalho, 10 Gerson Magrão, 8 André Martins, 6 Vítor Silva and 23 Adrien;

Forwards: 18 Carrillo, 11 Diego Capel, 28 Wilson Eduardo, 25 Diogo Salomão, 17 Fredy Montero, 9 Slimani and 36 Carlos Mané.

Rojo offers the ball in our defensive zone to Danilo Dias and Heldon has two shots on goal both super saved by Marcelo.

Great work by Mané on the right and Slimani wastes a clear goal chance.

A good first 30' by Sporting going back to the nice attacking football we've showed in the great majority of matches in this season.

A very good first start by one more quality winger Made in Alvalade, Carlos Mané. Fast, skilled and intelligent, he was, only, our best player in this first half. Scored a beauty of a goal, created other chances and was always the most incisive player upfront. Slimani was also good but Capel, and above all Vítor were very average.

We reached the goal logically but in the last 15' we let Marítimo come back to the game and almost let them equalize.

Hopefully Jardim will make some changes in the second half so that we can secure a solid win on this one.

Quick counter by Sporting started by Slimani launching Capel on the right, who went to the line crossed back to Vítor, who killed the ball with class and shot with no chances. Nice restart by two of the players that did less in the first 45'.

2-0 at 49'
