Liga 13/14 R15| Estoril Praia 0-0 SPORTING| Amoreira, 11.01.2014, 21:15 CET

Liga Portuguesa 2013/2014

Round 15

Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, Estoril, 11.01.2014, 21:15 CET
Ref: Pedro Proença (AF Lisboa)
5,020 att.

vs

Estoril Praia 0-0 SPORTING CP

The first half of the 2013/14 league will finish today for us with what is arguably the 3rd most difficult away game of the season. Estoril is clearly the 4th best team of our league right now therefore this will always be a very difficult one. Having said this it's important to keep in mind that Sporting has been playing some very good football so there is no reason not to feel optimistic.

An added reason for the squad to feel confident is the fact that our fans will pack Amoreira's stands, in spite of the fact that Estoril put the prices for visiting fans at an exorbitant cost of €30, the double of what they charged when FCP and SLB went there. Fortunately for Estoril's finances, Sporting fans did not fail to keep the green wave rising and they have bought all the tickets available for the visiting fans.

Regarding the players available for this match, the only one missing will be Jefferson due to one match ban. It is expected that Iván Piris will fill the LB position.

Leonardo Jardim called the following 19 players:

Goalkeepers: 1 Rui Patrício and 22 Marcelo Boeck.

Defenders: 41 Cédric, 30 Iván Piris, 3 Maurício, 15 Eric Dier and 5 Marcos Rojo.

Midfielders: 23 Adrien, 10 Gerson Magrăo, 14 William Carvalho, 6 Vítor and 8 André Martins.

Forwards: 11 Diego Capel, 28 Wilson Eduardo, 25 Diogo Salomăo, 18 Carrillo, 9 Slimani, 17 Fredy Montero and 36 Carlos Mané.

A very balanced first half with one goal chance to each side. Estoril is really a tough team to play against as they have a really good midfield and fast attacking players. Sporting is playing really well in defense, not giving them any chances, particularly through the great work of William and Maurício.

Upfront things have been more complicated, because of Estoril but also because we are practically only playing with one winger as Carrillo is in one of his no-no days. I wouldn't be surprised if LJ will bring on Capel already at the start of the 2nd half.

One sad note to the refereeing of gaylord Proenca. Apart from his tendency of only seeing fouls for one side he managed to give two incredible yellow cards to Cedric and Montero. Obviously it is a coincidence that Cedric will be suspended for the next game and Montero got his 4th yellow leaving him on the verge of missing a certain derby.

Montero barged from behind inside the box but those ones are only called when teams wearing red or blue are on the attacking side.

We forgot how to score and with refs like weve been getting lately we will be quickly falling down the table

A better second half from Sporting especially after Leonardo Jardim changed the tactical display of the team, something that Estoril never managed to adapt to. We were more dangerous, attacked more, shot more on goal, had more of the ball but the goal chances were still divided to both sides which means that the final score ends up being fair.

One more superb game by William Carvalho, very well helped by both CBs and a very hardworking game by Montero upfront. Rui Patrício made sure with this clean sheet, the 6th successive one in the league and 7th counting with the League Cup game with Porto, that he broke his personal record of more minutes without conceding a goal. Impressive stuff from a team that was supposed to have "an average defensive backline", according to the footy "experts" of our country.

Proenca was himself: a shameless clown.

We dropped 2 points, where Porto also drew and Benfica won. Our two rivals will play tomorrow so at least one of them will drop points. Here's a toast to a 0-0 with 3 red cards for each side.

We are the best attack in the league by far but who am I to stop your knees from jerking?

Yes, and we had plenty of chances against Porto and today played against one of the best teams in the league. I am not worried because we keep playing well and are on a 7 games streak without conceding a goal, something that is normally more important than winning with goleadas.

well after half the league, Benfica ends up in first... DOnt know how whenever I watch them they are usually terrible but then again its not a surprise when I see the refereeing that has gone on this season.
