Teams: SPORTING CP & Portugal NT
A very poor second half from Sporting, not because Rio Ave played better, but simply because we were never capable of building our offensive game like it happened so far in this season. There are different reasons for that, namely the soft game from our midfield trio, Capel's injury (Carrillo was in one of his bad days at the job) and a strange lack of more offensive options on the bench.
A good side would have probably beaten us tonight, fortunately that's not the case with Rio Ave, but on the other hand, with an honest ref maybe we would have won it - it's impossible that he didn't see that handball inside the box when the game was already 1-1.
This game and this score is a reality check for many of us sportinguistas. This team is filled with young players and that is always a two-edged sword. We never said that we were title challengers but it's also not a case to give up from our objectives.
