SPORTING B at Segunda Liga 2013/14

After a very good experience in the first season of the return of our B team 2013/14 started today with a friendly in Viseu against Académico de Viseu, recently promoted from Segunda Divisão. The game finished the 90' with a 1-1 draw and our goal was scored by Iuri Medeiros. The game went to penalty kicks to decide the winner and Sporting B ended up winning 4-3.

Under the command of our new coach Abel Ferreira, who came from our U19 team, we played with the following players:

Mickael Meira, Edelino Ié, Nuno Reis, Yan Zihao, Hugo Sousa, Iuri Medeiros, William Owusu, Marcelo Lopes, Juary Soares, Gelson Martins and Mauro Riquicho.

Also played: Kikas, Sambinha, Filipe Chaby, Braima Candé, Ruben Ribeiro, Liu Yiming, Wilson Manafá and Luís Ribeiro.

Iuri Medeiros seems on fire lately been scoring lots of goals, talented player he is Ive seen footage and like him.... when he plays as a central forward he sort of reminds me of how messi is used at Barcelona.

Betinho also has a 60 million buy out clause now, while most the others have 45. But I think this year Betinho will be almost entirely with the B side again. I hope he can adapt to senior football soon because hes such a lethal striker in youth football and scores some lovely goals.

Segunda Liga starts today for Sporting B. We are right now playing at Estádio da Tapadinha against Atlético and this is our first starting XI of the season:

Luís Ribeiro
Mauro Riquicho - Tobias Figueiredo - Nuno Reis - Mica
Fokobo
Kikas - João Mário
Ricardo Esgaio - Betinho - Iuri Medeiros

A team that would finish not lower than mid-table at Primeira Liga for sure.

Loads of goal chances already created by Sporting in this first quarter.

0-0 at half time. Sporting B was better and could have taken the lead as it missed several chances almost all of them denied by Atlético's keeper or even by the crossbar. Atlético didn't create any danger. Riquicho got a boot in the face from Tobias and had to be subbed by Wilson Manafá at 42'.

Abel makes the second sub at 57' bringing in Zézinho for Fokobo. We are completely on top of Atlético.

At 64' 1-0 for Atlético by Mauro Antunes thanks to a silly move by our keeper who gave the ball to Mica when he had two opponents on top of him and the Atlético player finished with a nice long lob. A result that has very little with what happened on the pitch so far but we need to finish some of the many chances we've created.

At 77' Abel makes the last sub. Nuno Reis is subbed by Cristian Ponde. We'll be playing with a 3x3x4.

Sporting loses 0-1 with Atlético in a game where we were clearly superior but were unable to finish a single one of the several goal chances created. Atlético defended well, particularly their keeper was really inspired, but got a gift of a goal and are probably wondering how they managed to win this one. A lot of work ahead of Abel, mostly in what concerns our finishing.

Sporting B is looking for its first win at Segunda Liga in the 2nd round of the competition. We are facing Beira-Mar in Alvalade and we are already 1-0 up thanks to a Iuri Medeiros goal after 11'. Here's our starting XI:

Luís Ribeiro
Ricardo Esgaio - Tobias Figueiredo - Nuno Reis - Mica
Fokobo
Kikas - João Mário
Cristian Ponde - Betinho - Iuri Medeiros

1-0 after 34' played so far.

Sporting B beat Beira-Mar 3-1. Betinho made the second after 62' and João Mário the third at 74' with Luís Phellype scoring BM's only goal 3' later. A good win at home against one of the teams with ambitions to be promoted.

Penafiel makes 1-0 at 9' on their first dangerous attack but Rafa Lopes handled the ball. It shouldn't have counted this one.

And now it's 2-0 by Gabi with a deflected shot. Lucky Penafiel but SCP B is playing too soft.

Already at 30' Abel makes a change: Cristian Ponde replaces Sambinha.
Fokobo goes back to CB, João Mário to DM.

First great goal chance for us at 42' with Fokobo forcing their keeper to a huge save.

Sporting B is losing 0-2 at Penafiel at HT. We had a very weak first half never managing to impose our game mainly due to the good pressure made by our opponents but also to the uninspired way that SCP B's midfield and attacking players played during almost all these first 45'. Abel took off Sambinha, who replaced Nuno Reis at the last minute right before kick-off and sent back Fokobo to his place. João Mário had to go back to the number 6 position with Ponde going to one of the attacking midfield slots. We improved slightly but moreneeds to be done to completely change this dismal match picture. Perhaps Zézinho should come in to give some punch to that midfield.

Abel makes the second sub at HT: Filipe Chaby replaces Welder.

A good move as we needed someone with Chaby's big talent in that soft midfield, with Esgaio going to RB, a position that he knows well.
