Liga 12/13, J19| Gil Vicente 2-3 SPORTING | Barcelos, 16.02.2013, 21:15 CET

Our quest to reach a European place, if we want to be über optimistic, continues today with a visit to one of the few teams that we have actually managed to beat this season. Gil Vicente is not in form but they are a tough team to beat at their stadium.

Sporting will be without quite a few players injured which means, for example, that our two CBs will both be players that started the season with the B team. Pedro Mendes (22), Tiago Ilori (19) or Eric Dier (19) - from here Jesualdo will have to chose the central pair for our defence. The other absents will be Jeffrén and Schaars (both injured, although the Dutch will soon be available) and Adrien (suspended).

The line-up will be announced soon.

Many surprises in the starting line-up:

Rui Patrício
Miguel Lopes - Eric Dier - Tiago Ilori - Joãozinho
Rinaudo - Zézinho
Carrillo - Labyad - Bruma
Ricky van Wolfswinkel

Subs: Marcelo Boeck, Cédric, Fokobo, Ricardo Esgaio, André Martins, Diego Capel and Diego Rubio.

Underlined are those players formed in Sporting's academy.

Good to see Jesualdo starting to prepare the future. Might as well do that when there is nothing else to lose.

Our starting XI has tonight an incredible age average of 21,7 :eekani:

The oldest is Miguel Lopes with 26, the youngest Bruma who is just 18.

At 3' it's Carrillo who has a superb ride on the left but this time their keeper saved. What a start by the young lions.

6 minutes played and a hurricane swept Gil, 18 year old Ilori goes higher than everybody else after a corner and heads in the second.

At 20' Gil Vicente gets one back by Hugo Vieira, after Ilori lost the ball in a forbidden place. Let's see if we react.

At 32' Bruma once again almost scores after the keeper made a meal out of nothing.

Great ride by Eric Dier on the left but nobody was waiting for his cross inside the box.

Unbelievable how Peixoto doesn't see a yellow for hacking Carrillo. :rollani:

A first half clearly marked by the age of our team. The first quarter was a superb hurricane of attacking football with Bruma and Carrillo leading the way putting Sporting 2-0 ahead in 6 minutes. Gil Vicente scored through a goal also linked with the inexperience of our CBs.

Nevertheless Sporting, on the contrary to what has been the sad trademark of this horrific 12/13 season, didn't kneejerk after suffering that goal and it was always the most dangerous of the two sides on the pitch being more than once closer to score the third than Gil of equalizing.

Let's hope we keep this attitude and avoid any more mistakes to make sure that we get these precious 3 points.

2-2 to Gil at 54' again by Hugo Vieira. Miguel Lopes easily passed by as usual and Joãozinho assisting the Gil forward inside the box. Very poor defending by the two older players back there.

At 59' our first sub: Capel IN for Labyad.

Jesualdo maintains the mistake of not having a 3rd player in the centre of our midfield. Why not André Martins??

On his 25th birthday he only needs 5 minutes on the pitch to put us back on front of the score.
