Liga 11/12, R30| SPORTING 3-2 Braga| Alvalade, 12.05.2012

The 2011/12 league finishes today with a game that will count for nothing as we already know that we can't reach the 3rd spot. We could claim that Braga's sugar daddy PdaC made sure last week that things would end up like this but a league is made of 30 games and even if we were robbed of a fair share of points, mainly in the first part of the season, we did not show enough stability and cohesion to justify what should always be the worst position demanded of this club.

In spite of this frustrating league positioning not all was bad this season.

We have started to build a very interesting team of talented and mostly young players.

We are witnessing the debut of a promising coaching career of a true Sporting fan.

We had a superb European career with a record breaking performance in what concerns home games.

We can still win a trophy next weekend.

Apart from all this, this team won back the respect and the trust of those that like (and can afford) to follow the club at Estádio José Alvalade. A proof of that is the fact that tonight the game is sold out (!) which means that this became officially the best ever season in terms of attendance average in Alvalade.

There were doubts on whether Sá Pinto would rest some of the most used players for next weekend's Cup final but he decided to bring on a full on attacking line-up. It's true that he does rest Diego Capel and Izmailov but apart from that it's a full strength side for a full house tonight:

Rui Patrício
João Pereira - Daniel Carriço - Xandão - Insúa
Elias - Schaars
Jeffrén - Matías Fernández - Carrillo
Ricky van Wolfswinkel

Very dangerous opportunity for Sporting from a corner with van Wolfs and Carrico very close to open the score.

Another great chance created by Carrillo but NAC took the goal from the feet of RVW.

Hilarious Rúben Amorim trying to dribble Carrillo close to his own box - obviously the Peruvian stole the ball from the chicken and van Wolfs bears it in.

Another great chance for us with Schaars making an excellent cross that Xandão missed by an inch.

SPORTING 1-0 Braga at HT

Complete domination from Sporting in this first half not letting Braga create anything upfront and producing a series of dangerous chances at the other end. It's true that the only goal so far came from a silly gift by a red cabeçudo but the chances were so many that something had to go in.

Individually, on the bright side was Carrillo who was excellent with van Wolfswinkel, Schaars and Elias working their socks off, as usual. On the dark side Insúa was poor for his standards, Jeffrén was a shadow and João Pereira kept running like a headless chicken, crossing like a blindman and distributing fruit to all the Braga players that had the bad luck to cross his path - ie. a perfect buy for Valencia this summer.

Fantastic support from a packed Alvalade. Let's keep the attitude and finish this in style.

Great work by Insúa on the left but Jeffrén wasted a clear goal chance.

At 58' 1-1 to Braga by Hélder Barbosa out of nowhere on a very softy display from our back four.

Schaars insisting inside the Braga box toying with Nuno André Coelho and van Wolfswinkel, like a true striker, finishing simple and clear.

Fantastic shot by Insúa from very far, great save by Quim, rebound with a flying header by van Wolfs another great save by Quim.

In the follow-up Quim makes a 3rd super save from a RvW close range header.
