EL SF, 2nd leg|Athletic Bilbao 3-1 SPORTING|San Mamés, 26.04.2012 (4-3 on agg.)

The big one is here! We are just one game away from our 3rd European final. Everybody knows this is probably one of the toughest places to go in Europe and they will be coming with everything they have on top of us but this Sporting has shown being capable of holding immense pressure apart from having also showed in the first leg that we are a better team than they are. Rumours say that Athletic is already distributing tickets to the final - let's hope the same will happen to them as it happened in the last two days with the two self-proclaimed finalists of the CL.

Sá Pinto is fielding a line-up with two changes from one week ago. Pereirinha is replacing Izmailov, who is suspended, on the right side of our midfield. A good choice as he did a great game at Eastlands against City. We are also going to see the return of Matías who will be occupying his favourite position behind the lone striker. André Martins will go back to the position held by Carriço in the first leg.

Here is our line-up:

Rui Patrício
João Pereira - Xandão - Polga - Insúa
André Martins - Schaars
Pereirinha - Matías Fernández - Diego Capel
Ricky van Wolfswinkel

Subs: Tiago, Daniel Carriço, Onyewu, Evaldo, Jeffrén, Carrillo and Diego Rubio.

Today more then ever...SPOOOOOOOOOORTING!!!!

Ridiculous yellow card to RvW which will keep him out of the final.

Sporting started very well though.

On the other side Llorente dives inside our box but no yellow for him. Atkinson at his best.

Bilbao scores by Susaeta at 16' but in the start of the play Schaars was elbowed in the face by the goal scorer.

Fantastic move by Sporting with Pereirinha missing by an inch. Great reaction from us.

Finally Athletic has a dangerous chance but they missed it. Sporting on top so far.

Athletic 2-1 SPORTING at HT (3-3 on agg.)

An electric first half showing once again two teams completely turned forward with the sole intention of winning the game and the tie. We've started well, pressing high, giving very little space to Athletic's expected tidal wave.

Athletic managed to score in a move clearly preceded by a foul but we all know (well...all except UEFA apparently) what a shit ref Martin Atkinson is. Sporting reacted strongly, created two great chances, by Pereirinha and Polga and Athletic only could react close to the break with two good chances by Ibai and Llorente.

Finally at 43' we scored the deserved goal through a left footed volley by van Wolfswinkel who has been massacred with fouls but, funny enough, was the only player to see a yellow from a completely normal tackle. Unfortunately we were not cool enough to kill time until the break and on a fast counter Athletic ended up doing the 2-1 that they really did not deserve.

Sporting had a great performance under the very tough circumstances but there are a couple of things that need to improve. Javi Martinez is having too much space in the middle, perhaps Carriço should come in to cancel him. Pereirinha started well but he started losing too many balls as long as the first half went. Maybe Carrillo or Jeffrén will eventually come in later on.

The tie is now completely level but a second goal from us will force them to score two. From what I've seen so far in this tie, I still believe we can do it!

Matías OUT replaced by Carriço at HT. Too bad but he was not 100% fit physically. We still can do it though!
