Sporting is on a high after the heroic feat in Europe last week but we haven't won an away game for the league for months so there is a lot of expectation regarding this tough away game at Gil Vicente. We crushed them in Alvalade 6-1 and we just put 5 past Guimarães in the last league game, who are a better team than Gil, but at home they are a really difficult opponent, as Porto (L 1-3) and Benfica (D 2-2) can witness, for example.

The line-up is out and it does not bring any surprises with it:

Rui Patrício
João Pereira - Xandão - Polga - Insúa
Elias - Schaars
Izmailov - Matías Fernández - Diego Capel
Ricky van Wolfswinkel

Subs: Marcelo Boeck, Evaldo, Daniel Carriço, Renato Neto, André Martins, Jeffrén, Carrillo and Diego Rubio.

Let's hope for some good football tonight!

1-0 to Gil Vicente at 13' by Rodrigo Galo after a great ride on the right side. Great goal.

Sporting didn't start bad but Gil took their chance.

Very nice attacking move by Sporting with Ricky assisting Schaars who shot just wide.

Great ride by Matías on the right but unfortunately nobody was there to tap it in.

Gil Vicente 1-0 SPORTING at HT

Our first half an hour was pretty much spineless even if our opponents also didn't do anything that could justify their lead. The last 15' were better and we were not far from scoring more than once.

The 4x2x3x1 formation that worked so well against Guimarães in the last league game is not working so far. Elias has been quite poor, on the contrary to what happened in that game, and the link up game in the central areas of our midfield has been suffering with it. Once again Matías was our best player and for a couple of times he almost went all the way to score a goal that we could and should already have netted.

Sá Pinto might bring on Jeffrén and Carrillo but perhaps it would be more fruitful to see Diego Rubio pairing upfront with RvW.

A completely unintentional handball by Schaars about one metre outside the box is transformed into a penalty by this great referee.

Rui Patricio saves.

In the follow-up João Pereira is accused of handling the ball inside the box by the ref and this time Cláudio doesn't miss. 2-0.

The circus is back in town.

At 68' Paixão continues the party. Now he gives a second yellow to Schaars, the first came with the ghost handball, and he is off. Game over...with Paixão.

This ref is an old friend of ours. There is no game where he doesn't distribute this kind of gits.

Is this ref allowed to referee UEFA games btw?

Poor performance though. A lot of misplaced passes. Very frustrating to watch. The poor away record continutes

Schaars first yellow card was pointless. Penalty call poor. Silly of the RB to go lunging in like that for the 2nd penalty though.

Disappointing the ref didn't send Van Wolfswinkel off just for the sake of it.
