The first game of Sá Pinto as our first coach for the league and also his first game in Alvalade, so what can we expect from it? I think we can expect neverending supporting chants from his Juve Leo mates. We can expect some players wanting to keep the place in the starting XI. We can expect the same problems in the defence, after all, Polga and JP are still there.

What I don't know if we will get but I surely would love to see is our team showing the same incredible grit we showed in the reverse tie when we turned 0-2 into 3-2 with about 20' to go.

The official line-up is out and there are no surprises at all:

Rui Patrício
João Pereira - Onyewu - Polga - Insúa
Rinaudo
Elias - Schaars
Carrillo - van Wolfswinkel - Izmailov

Game kicks off at 21:15 CET

FORÇA SPORTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :fero:

We started well even if we couldn't yet create any danger as Calisto brought the bus. It was Michel though who missed a huge chance for Paços after a lost ball in our midfield.

A very good freekick from the left by Schaars, Cássio punches the ball against one of his CBs and it's 1-0 for us. The bus got a flat tire at 37'.

Sporting 1-0 Paços de Ferreira at HT

45 minutes watching one team trying to score and another trying not to concede. To break a 4x6x0 tactical scheme there are two keys: speed or dead ball situations. We lacked the former and used the latter to break the bank. Paços has been invisible upfront bar one single chance that Michel wasted.

The main difference between Domingos and Sá Pinto's schemes seem to be the fact that Elias is going back more often to take the ball from our defensive half. It's a good sign but he is not having his best game for us so far. It's also strange to see Matías out of the first XI but maybe SP is saving him for Legia on Thursday.

Ricky misses a penalty after Ricardo handled the ball. Disgusting gamesmanship by Paços players doing all they could to trouble RvW plus the keeper who was out of the goal line long before the penalty was kicked.

Right after that Rui Patrício saves our asses with a great double save.

At 86' João Pereira is hacked just inside the box, the ref calls a freekick outside.

SPORTING 1-0 Paços de Ferreira - FT

A very poor 2nd half where we showed very little upfront and did not concede simply because Paços was even worst than us.

Sá Pinto once again did well in bringing on Pereirinha and André Santos but nothing changed in what really matters, another proof of how useless this change of coach was.

A shit refereeing too with two penalties not called for us and the circus allowed on the one that was indeed called but, that's the name of the game for us and that should not be an excuse for our overall poor game tonight.

Izmailov was probably our best player tonight but that was not enough.

Incredible to listen to Paços' coach Henrique Calisto assuming on the post-match press conference that he made a mistake when he said on the flash interview, right after the game ended, that there were no other penalties against Paços and that the foul on João Pereira was indeed inside the box.

Maybe following the great example of his coach, Ricardo, who so theatrically claimed innocence on the penalty called against him, recognised after watching the tv images, that his elbow was quite far from his torso and that he accepted the penalty call. Hats off to both of them.

I wonder if the referee will follow their example and assume his several mistakes. Perhaps using facebook, who knows.
