We're playing tomorrow night against Penafiel at home for this one. A win will practically give us a place in the semis. I don't think I will be able to watch it though as I'll be travelling to London due to work and the same goes for the Marítimo league game on Monday.

Anyway, here's the list of players called by Paulo Sérgio for this one:

Goalkeepers: Rui Patrício e Tiago

Defenders: Abel, João Pereira, Torsiglieri, Daniel Carriço, Polga, Evaldo, Cédric e Grimi

Midfielders: Pedro Mendes, Maniche, André Santos, Zapater, Vukcevic, Diogo Salomão e Jaime Valdés

Forwards: Carlos Saleiro e Liedson

SPORTING 4-0 Penafiel FT

I've managed to grab a computer and although I've missed the first 10' it was worth the effort.

We had the usual wishy washy first half but still managed to hit the post (twice, by Pedro Mendes and Grimi) and also to score a goal by João Pereira due to the legendary "ratice" of Liedson. The second half was much better, with Jaime Valdés once again being the best. He scored from the spot after having a wrongly disallowed goal and was, together with Liedson, always the most dangerous of our players. There was still time for two more goals in the last 10', both by Zapater, who must have reached some record as he scored twice in the mere 14' that he played as a used sub.

The opponent tonight was far from impressive but 4 goals in times of crisis are always a motive to celebrate. Furthermore this win practically gives us the place in the semi-finals as only a huge debacle against Estoril and a strong win by Penafiel over Naval would take us out of the first spot in the group.

Seems like Sporting's better off without a president, why elect so early?

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

In the middle of the usual turmoil that surrounds the last days of any transfer window, we're playing tonight at Estoril in what will be the last game of the group stage of this season's League Cup. A draw will be enough to keep the first spot in the group and book a place in the semi final.

Paulo Sérgio opted to rest a few of the most influential players, in spite of the very narrow margin of choice of this season's squad. Here's the list of 18 players called:

Goalkeepers: Rui Patrício e Tiago.

Defenders: Abel, Torsiglieri, Daniel Carriço, Cédric Soares, Nuno André Coelho, Grimi e João Pereira.

Midfielders: Pedro Mendes, Zapater, André Santos, Vukcevic, Matias Fernandez, Diogo Salomão e Tales.

Forwards: Saleiro e Hélder Postiga.

1-1 from the spot by Alex Afonso at 8' . If you want to have a laugh just look at this call by the ref. :rollani:

At 37' Estoril's keeper has an amazing save with his knee from a very close range shot by Saleiro. Huge chance.

Estoril 1-1 SPORTING at HT

It's clear, even from the starting line-up that we fielded tonight, that this was never going to be a game played with much intensity from our side but two goal chances in 45' it's always very little. It started well with a fantastic crossed shot by Abel after only 4' but only 5 minutes later the ref decided to give a belated Xmas present to the locals and call a ridiculous penalty. Saleiro could have scored after a very good attacking move but their keeper saved very well.

Wouldn't mind seeing Tales in action in the second half and probably Postiga could also get a few minutes to gain back rhythm.

At 77' Estoril makes 2-1 again from the spot after Tiago fouled one of their players on the counter. This time the penalty was well called but the red card is exaggerated as there were two of our defenders at the same level of their last man.

Rui Patrício came in for sub Diogo Salomão.

Estoril 2-1 SPORTING FT

A mediocre second half (from both sides) and a loss that ended up not being that harmful as, as expected, we finished top of our group and reached the semi finals, which will be played probably against Benfica.
