There is absolutely no space for errors in this tie and I am sure the coach and the players know it. I just hope we get a good result in this first leg that can allow us to avoid any surprises.

Official line-up:

Rui Patrício
João Pereira - Daniel Carriço (c) - Nuno André Coelho - Evaldo
André Santos
Maniche - Matías Fernández - Jaime Valdés
Hélder Postiga - Liedson

Subs: Tiago, Polga, Zapater, Vukcevic, Sinama-Pongolle, Yannick Djaló and Saleiro.

Good to see Polga on the bench but would have liked to see Zapater making his debut.

Anyway...let's eat that Danish pastry!

0-1 at 43' by Kristiansen. Incredible the passivity of our midfield and defense in this counter. A complete cock up.

Sporting look dreadful again this year, they lose the ball so carelessly once they pass the half way line and the defense bar Carrico are all vunerable one v one or have bad positioning.

0-1 at HT

We started well this first half pressing and shooting on goal several times but that last very little. Bröndby came only to defend and we did not take advantage of that. We kept our defense too deep, very far from the midfield, Matías started well but got a knock on his knee and looks like he is going out at HT. All this made our game to lack fluidity but there is no excuse for that goal. Incredible the way our midfield and our defence allowed their players to stroll upfront and finish almost without opposition. Now, even if we manage to turn around this score we will already travel with 1 goal conceded at home which is always a very negative detail on these ties.

Filipe, you guys have been poor in all showings aside from that Man City game. That comment is not off the mark.

And at 52' Jallow makes 0-2 and it's bye bye Europe. Another case of ball watching there.

Somebody should explain to this díckhead of a ref that you shouldn't call fouls when the attacking team is holding the ball in a dangerous position. He's been doing it against us over and over again in this match.

Vukcevic came in for Matias at 56'. I wonder why PS waited for us to be 0-2 down to replace a player that was obviously injured in the first half.

Finally some pressure. Djalo, of course, starts it with the first good shot on goal. Another effort on target after, then a shot over the bar.

Telling you, this kid changes the game with his pace and eye for goal.

FFS as if we needed this...a penalty the size of Cristo Rei on João Pereira and the bloody ref doesn't call it.

This is definitely not our day. Liedson on a bicicleta hits the post and one minute later Nuno AC hits the post again with a header. :rollani:

At 75' Saleiro comes in for Valdés.

We are pressing but there's too many nerves out there.

0-2 FT

A mixture of bad defending, a very low self-confidence and loads of bad luck. These are not easy times to be a Sporting fan.

Sporting didn't have the luck today, but oh my they did not try hard enough.

Brøndby is a team which has been through many tough years and finally this season has shown something, but still I was surprised of how hard a time Sporting had with them.

And Liedson looks like he'll be out for a while - nasty looking injury at the end.

With all due respect my friend I don't think that any Danish or for that matter any Scandinavian side, knows the real meaning of what means to go through "tough times", at least when compared with the kind of pressure that surrounds a club like Sporting in Portugal.

You claim that we have not tried hard enough but these are the cold numbers of this match (from UEFA's website):

Sporting had 23 shots (7 on target, of which 2 hit the post; 15 off target and 1 blocked).

Bröndby had 4 shots (4 on target, of which 2 goals).

You can claim that we haven't been efficient but let's not talk about trying.

I honestly think that we have lost this tie. Not that we don't have a team good enough to win by 2 goals in Denmark, but it's not in one week that we can lift the morale of this squad.
