PL R23: SPORTING 3-1 Vit. Guimarães; Alvalade; 14.03.2010

Guimarães is not exactly the best team to face in between two massive games against Atlético Madrid but that's the way it is. They are the only real threat to our 4th place and they are one of the most physical sides of our league, adding to that they have a good coach. In spite of this we are playing some very good football and the team is clearly on top of the wave so I do expect us to win.

Starting XI:

Rui Patrício
João Pereira - Tonel - Polga - Grimi
Pedro Mendes
Izmailov - João Moutinho - Miguel Veloso
Liedson - Saleiro

Subs: Tiago, Pedro Silva, Caneira, Bruno Pereirinha, Adrien Silva, Matías Fernandez and Sinama Pongolle.

What about that for a start? Liedson steals the ball from one of their CBs and lashes a beautiful curled shot on the top right corner of Nilson's goal.

Unbeleivable bad call by the linesman stealing a completely clean 3rd goal to Saleiro.

Bruno Paixão can't deny his red scum blood really.

You crack me up man, your first goal was offiside and you didn't even mention it but now you're all hyped up about a goal that was called back

Everyone's blood is red, not everyone has the good taste to like Benfica though:smileani:

Go on as this opener was a gift.

Carlos Saleiro = The new Ibra

Oh

And I hope Liedson plays like this for Portugal, seems to be warming up at the right time after a slow first half to the season.

SPORTING 3-0 Vitória Guimarães at HT

The true Sporting is back! The first 20' of this half showed what this club is all about and the 4 goals (one was stolen by the boi vermelho) that we managed to score were the clear mirror of what happened on the pitch.

Hats off to Vitória who even after the 3rd goal never stopped trying to discuss the game but apart from a brainfart moment by Tonel that could have gifted them a goal it was only Sporting that could even have scored more namely by Izmailov and Liedson.

I expect, and hope, that Carvalhal will rest some key players for the game on Thursday. Moutinho, Veloso and Saleiro would be for me the main candidates.

Gettoutahere man. A benfiquista commenting on other teams being helped by the refs :dielaugh::dielaugh::dielaugh: That's just like Craig Bellamy giving moral lessions to John Terry.

First substitution is a good one: Matias comes IN for Veloso.

Right afterwards Izmailov could have finished better a good counter led by Saleiro.

Saleiro now wastes a very good attacking move but Matías almost scores at the end of it.

Rui Patrício is having a superb second half. Just saved us from allowing a second with two super saves.

SPORTING 3-1 Guimarães FT

It was unavoidable that we would take off the foot from the pedal in this second half and Guimarães took well advantage of it. Still, in spite of some nervy moments in the back after conceding the goal, it never really looked like this win was in any kind of danger.

Rui Patrício, Pedro Mendes, Izmailov, Saleiro and Liedson were our best players tonight.

Another very positive display from us and a result that leaves us with a comfortable 6 points lead over the 5th place.

Do you think Carvalhal should stay based on the last couple of games?
