PL R17: Sp. Braga 1-0 SPORTING; Braga; 29.01.2010

After a two weeks break the League is back with one of the hottest matches that is still to be played this season.

To be honest, the heat is much more on Braga than on ourselves, as even if the understandable speech of our coach and players is all about us still being on the title race, they surely know that only a miracle could see us passing both teams that are currently leading us by 12 points.

In any case we will go to Braga to win, no matter what consequences that will bring in the title challenge of our opponents tonight. We've deservedly beaten this same team less than a month ago for the League Cup and our team is clearly on the way up, so we do have reasons to be optimistic.

This could be the starting line-up that Carvalhal will pick for the match that kicks off at 21:45 CET:

Rui Patrício
João Pereira - Daniel Carriço - Tonel - Grimi
Adrien
João Moutinho - Matías Fernández - Miguel Veloso
Saleiro - Liedson

Subs bench: Tiago, Pedro Silva, Polga, Izmailov, Yannick Djaló, Sinama-Pongolle and Hélder Postiga.

There's one change to the first XI posted before. Izmailov started instead of Matías.

Tight first 10'. Very balanced so far.

1-0 to Braga by Paulo César at 32'. A very lucky goal from a side that did nothing in attacking terms so far.

Why was that a very lucky goal? Did I miss something? Looked pretty straight forward, you don't need to call every goal against your team 'lucky and undeserved.'

Eduardo showing what a calamity of a keeper he is in crosses, drops the ball and Liedson almost gets an equaliser.

It only went in because it got a massive deflection on Tonel. Rui Patrício was completely caught going in the other way. That was Braga's first shot of the game as well. Like I said, lucky and undeserved.

1-0 for Braga at HT

Very good first half with both sides giving all even if there were not that many goal chances, mainly due to the good defensive work by both teams. Braga were lucky in the way they scored and Sporting could have equalised more than once. We had more of the ball and looked good going upfront. It's still game on for the second half.

Do Braga ever play Possebon?

Without it gravity is just gravy.

And at 70' Saleiro goes off and Sinama-Pongolle comes in. 3 attacking changes in this 2nd half.

Two huge chances for us right at the end of added time but we couldn't score.

Braga 1-0 Sporting FT

A very tight second half in a game that really should have ended with a draw. Still, we did not manage to be deadly enough in the not so many goal chances that we've created and Braga have a super defense that rarely concedes (6 goals allowed in 17 games!).

Good game by Carriço, Moutinho, Saleiro and also Matias.

Not a very good start for an absolutely hell of a month of February, where we will be playing 8 matches, including two games with Porto, two games with Everton and one with Benfica.
