Taça|1/8|SPORTING 4-3 Mafra; Alvalade, 20.01.2010

The Portuguese Cup is back with Sporting facing 2nd Division minnows of CD Mafra. This game comes in an increasingly good moment of form in our team and although Carvalhal chose most of those that are regularly called, the starting XI shows some new faces:

Rui Patrício
Abel - Carriço - Polga - Grimi
Adrien
Izmailov - Matías Fernández - Vukcevic
Saleiro - Yannick Djaló

Subs bench: Tiago, Pedro Silva, Caneira, João Pereira, Postiga, João Moutinho and Liedson.

Sporting's goal came after Sporting dominated the game from start even if not creating any chance until then. Great breakthrough pass to Djaló who was tripped by the keeper inside the box. Only a yellow card to their keeper and Matias scored the penalty. One minute later Mafra did their first real attacking move and scored. Not boring at all.

Great header from a corner by our Beckenbauer. One minute earlier there was a clear penalty on our favour as one of Mafra's CBs cleared handled the ball inside their box. The ref missed it.

Mafra was doing well after their goal, let's see if they can keep it up.

SPORTING 3-1 CD Mafra at HT

A very entertaining first half on a game where Sporting dominated possession but where our opponents had also some good spells. We dominated until our first goal but Mafra's quick reaction gave them enough confidence to level things up not only on the scoreboard but also on the pitch. Our midfield without Veloso and Moutinho is lacking in quality and speed as Vukcevic has been poor but Matias is having a good game.

Finally we seem to be getting our attacking set pieces right and that gave us two goals that have more than probably sentenced the tie.

Hope to see Liedson in the second half so that we can reach our biggest win of the season so far.

Very dangerous counterattacking move completed wasted by Vukcevic. What a dumb player this guy is.

Hat-trick by Zhang! Great header after another imbecile trick by Vukcevic that ended up giving the ball away to the opposition.

SPORTING 4-3 CD Mafra FT

Never a dull moment for a sportinguista this season

A much less interesting second half mainly due to the very early 4th goal that practically killed the game. Sporting completely dominated this period and could, and should, have scored a few more. Mafra did nothing until they got a couple of gifts from our defense just to make sure that Chinaman Zhang could have the game of his life.

Good game by Izmailov, Matias and Djaló. Horrible display of fuçanguice by Vukcevic.

Sporting is in the Quarter Finals of the 2009/10 Taça de Portugal.

who is this Zhang? absolutely nothing about him on wikipedia. Same with his club.

Some shocking defending there - 1st and 2nd goal. 3rd too I guess you could say was an error but he at least headed the ball well in.

Our closet lagarto already did the favour to splash the tabloid front pages so here is a more serious explanation of what happened last night right after the game between Liedson and Sá Pinto...

Sá Pinto e Liedson ao soco no balneário
by Filipe Alexandre Dias in O Jogo, 20.01.2010

-----------------------------------------------------

I'd like now to hear all those imbeciles that always claimed Pedro Barbosa's head to put this moron as football director. Paulo Bento must be laughing his socks off.
