Teams: SPORTING CP & Portugal NT
I went to the match and a few hours later had to catch a plane back to Sweden, that's why only now I'm posting about it.
It's always great to watch Sporting playing live in Alvalade and this time I feel I was lucky enough to witness what was probably our best game so far in the League. It seems that the new system implemented by Carvalhal is starting to be assimilated by most of the team and that helped to create a very different dynamic in our game last night.
João Pereira's debut was excellent, especially during the first 45'. He really is a quality full back and all sportinguistas know how much we missed a decent player in that position in the last 5 years.
Sinama-Pongolle also had an interesting start, showing a lot of will and guts in the 19 minutes he played, but perhaps he should stay out of his own box...that 91st minute save of Rui Patrício "à Damas" could and should have been avoided.
The rest of the team was almost all in a good level with a special remark to Izmailov, João Moutinho and, of course, Tonel. On the downside I would only include Postiga (he tries but he just can't make it) and Vukcevic (an irritating primadonna that should go back to his Russian team as soon as possible).
Diego, Leixões keeper, was obviously the Man Of the Match. An incredible series of saves, some of very good quality and other by pure luck, managed to keep the suspense until the 84th minute. Sporting deserved much more but these 3 points sent us to the 4th place, an important move right before we host Nacional who are tied on points with us right now.
