Sporting's New Coach: Welcome Carlos Carvalhal

Sexy Co

He's actually just turned down NEC Nijmegen p so who knows.

He needs the money to pay that fine to Porto and what better than doing that by getting one over Pinto da Costa and friends.

Bettencourt said we should have a new coach in about two weeks.

Sporting can't afford him.

It seems that our future coach, at least according to the latest declarations of Bettencourt to the press, will be "Portuguese and experienced". That just about erases most of the names that have been speculated so far.

José Peseiro has the experience of an UEFA Cup final.

Seriously, what about Manuel José? He was quite successful in Africa, and one can't deny his experience. Well, guess he wouldn't leave Angola again so quickly.

Fernando Santos and Jaime Pacheco might be further option.

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

Apologies for having a life.

One of the reasons why Paulo Bento stayed at Sporting for so long was because he was cheap. The profile of the new manager has also been set already: portuguese, therefore cheap.

Believe it or not but there are morons supporting my club that are talking about how good it would be to have him back.

That is my number one choice but I highly doubt he would do it for several reasons being the first the fact that he is now the coach of the Angolan NT and they will be hosting the African Nations Cup in January, Can't see how he could multi-task in that situation.

There are many foreign coaches cheaper than many Portuguese coaches.

If there is any truth in this, I think this can be very interesting for us. LFL is a very intelligent man that breathes football and has the plus of not being member of any of the "fractions" that currently decimate our club.

Luís Freitas Lobo desejado pelo leão
Por Carlos Pereira Santos
in A Bola, 09.11.2009

There are (too) many rumours flying around right now about the name of our future coach but it seems that André Villas Boas, the current coach of Académica, and a former member of Mourinho's coaching team at Chelsea and Inter, will be the chosen one. A decision should be known tomorrow or Friday.

What seems to be clear is that Ricardo Sá Pinto will be one of the member's of the new football department team.

Villas Boas is considered to be a tactical mastermind. Mourinho used to get him to give the scouting reports on opponents, especially the big CL ties. He's apparently a huge student of the game, very very bright, and has all the knowledge required to be a great manager. This would be a fantastic addition for Sporting, in my opinion.

Id like to have Villas Boas and Luis Freitas Lobo

but villas boas doesnt have coaching experience, and didnt bettencourt say the coach would be experienceD?

but VB seems to be a smart coach and he learned from one of the best.

hes only been at academica for a couple weeks tho. if sporting signs him does he come right away or will it be for next season?

It seems that the only thing needed to close the deal with Villas Boas is a final talk between him and Bettencourt to set the last details. That talk was supposed to happen today but Académica's match last night for Lucílio Cup in Portimão was stopped due to floodlight failure and will have to be repeated today. I think that by Saturday we will have him announced as our new coach. He will be bringing all his staff and he will start working immediately.
