Taça|3rdR| SPORTING 3-0 Penafiel; Alvalade, 18.10.2009

Sporting's attempt to win our 16th Portuguese Cup will start today at the 3rd Round of the 2009/10 edition of the second most important trophy of our football. Our opponent will be FC Penafiel, a club that currently plays at Liga Vitalis, the 2nd level of our football.

The international break brought one more serious injury to the list of players unavailable. Yannick Djaló broke a leg in Poland at the service of Portugal's U-23 squad and it was only after being observed by our club's medical staff that the injury was confirmed, as according to FPF he was OK. :rollani: He will be 6 weeks out.

Izmailov, Polga, Caneira and the keeper Ricardo Batista are also out injured. On the other hand André Marques is back from his injury.

This will be a tougher match than what could look on paper as there is an obvious tension every time we play home this season. The small minority of fans that keep jeering our players at the first stray pass will certainly be there, as usual. In spite of that, I hope we can put up a decent performance and go on annoying that same small minority.

According to today's "O Jogo", this may be our starting XI in the match that kicks off at 19:15 CET in Alvalade:

Tiago
Abel - Tonel - Daniel Carriço - Grimi
Miguel Veloso
Angulo - Vukcevic
João Moutinho
Liedson - Hélder Postiga

Subs from: Rui Patrício, Pedro Silva, André Marques, Adrien Silva, Bruno Pereirinha, Matías Fernández, Saleiro and Caicedo.

I'd give Saleiro a chance. Can't be worse than Postiga.

Well, funny enough Bier, you were right. The only change from the line-up posted before is that Saleiro started instead of Postiga.

Great chance by Saleiro with a miracle save by their keeper.

0-0 at HT

Two great goal chances in 45' against a 2nd division team can't be considered as enough. Sporting is playing without wings, as both full backs, Abel and especially Grimi, and also the two midfield players that are supposed to carry the game in both sides, Angulo and Vukcevic, have been completely invisible. On the good side, Miguel Veloso and especially Saleiro, who showed during these first 45' more than what Postiga did in all the games he played so far for us this season.

It means that Sporting's game has zero quality once again. Uninspired, slow, boring and depressing to watch.

You forgot a crucial detail. Two words: "this season".

Miguel Veloso goes to the Left back position and Adrien is playing as DM, as expected.

A gift by one of Penafiel's CBs that gave the ball to Moutinho who assisted O Levezinho, which, as usual, did not forgive.

Liedson transformed an almost lost ball into a dangerous shot which was stopped by the arm of a Penafiel defender. Moutinho didn't miss and we've probably wrapped this one up.

At 84' Pedro Silva comes IN for Liedson. Just for the standing ovation.
