PL R4: SPORTING 1-0 Paços de Ferreira; Alvalade, 13.09.2009

After the two weeks international break we're back in the League with a game that should normally bring us our first win at home this season. Paços de Ferreira is one of those average sides of this poor Liga Sagres and in spite of Bruno Paixão being the ref we should get the 3 points without much hassle.

It's an historical game for Liedson, who will play his 250th official match for Sporting and, in case of scoring, will enter in the mythical group of players scoring 100 goals in the League for us.

This may also be the match that will mark the debut of our most recent acquisition, as the Spanish attacking midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo is said to be in a very good position to be a starter barely 2 weeks after he joined the club.

It also seems that there will be an important change in the backline as Polga's injury was aggravated and he will most certainly be replaced by Tonel.

Leandro Grimi and Hélder Postiga recovered from their injuries and are both available.

Here is the list of players called by Paulo Bento for the game that starts tonight at 21:15 CET...

Goalkeepers: Rui Patrício e Ricardo Batista;

Defenders: Daniel Carriço, Pedro Silva, Marco Caneira, Tonel, Grimi, Abel e André Marques;

Midfielders: Adrien Silva, Vukcevic, Matías Fernández, Miguel Veloso, Angulo e João Moutinho;

Forwards: Carlos Saleiro, Yannick Djaló, Hélder Postiga e Liedson.

Two consecutive Sporting corners with Tonel winning both headers. One was very well saved by Cássio and the other went wide. Finally some good play in the air from us this season.

Paços players have been spending during these first 30' more time rolling on the floor than actually playing football.

0-0 HT

Irritating first half with Sporting being unable to create much danger against a pathetic side that not only parked the bus but also decided to roll on the floor in front of it.

Some good signs by Angulo in his debut but with almost zero support from tonight's RB Abel.

André Marques on the last minute of added time almost gave away a goal but Rui saved well.

At 85' Caneira comes in for Djaló, who was probably our best player tonight.

Liedson is pushed from behind when he was one on one with the keeper. 2nd red card for Paços.

Moutinho passes the ball to the keeper on a wasted free kick and the game is over.

SPORTING 1-0 Paços de Ferreira FT

The second half was a bit better from our side but it was all in all once again a pale display in this season.

Liedson once again made the difference and once again made history - 250 official matches for the club and 100 goals in the league!

That's right. I think he was clearly the man of the match tonight and he's been getting better game after game - another example of Queiroz cluelessness.
