PL R10: SPORTING 2-0 Vit. Guimarães; Alvalade, 30.11.2008

After the midweek freak show against FC Messi, we're back to domestic duties to face the always tough test of Vitória de Guimarães.

Our team is ravaged by injuries (Tonel, Pedro Silva, Abel and Rochemback) and suspensions (Derlei and Caneira) but Izmailov is now available and so seems to be the maverick Simon Vukcevic, who apparently apologised for his childish behaviour of the last couple of months and is now back training with the group, although he was not called for this game.

Guimarães has been average this year, far from last year's solidity, but they are still a fairly strong team for our league's standards and are coached by an old fox.

Nevertheless, I am confident that we can once again go over bad times and take the 3 points.

Here is our official line-up:

Rui Patrício

Pereirinha - Daniel Carriço - Polga - Grimi

Miguel Veloso

João Moutinho - Izmailov

Romagnoli

Liedson - Hélder Postiga

Subs:
Tiago, Pedro Mendes, Ronny, Adrien, Cédric, Yannick Djaló and Rodrigo Tiuí.

After 9' Sporting is leading 1-0 with a great shot by Postiga after a superb pass by Romagnoli. Great start by the Lions!

Liedson scores his 122nd goal for us and equals the legendary José Travassos!

Great run by Romagnoli on the left and a perfect assist to the one and only Levezinho.

2-0 after 21'

2-0 at HT

A very good first half from Sporting, completely dominating a very timid Vitória, who came here clearly only with the aim of leaving with a 0-0.

We're playing fast and efficiently, not giving any chances in the midfield. Romagnoli and Izmailov were very good in the middle, just like Postiga and Liedson upfront.

The only chance Vitória had came from the usual brainfart of Miguel "pretty boy" Veloso, who left an open street for Desmarets to assist Marquinhos who missed a one-on-one situation with Patrício. But, yeah, this is just me bad mouthing him. :rollani:

Guimarães will have to stop defending and they will surely bring some attacking players in the 2nd half, but exactly because of that we should try to get a relaxing 3rd goal to finish off this.

Sporting closer to the 3rd than Vitória to the 1st.

Ronny had two fiery free kicks on target but Nilson saved well.

Postiga just scored the 3rd...but the referee, and not the linesman ( :eekani: ) says that Nilson managed to save it. Unbelievable stuff.

Liedson is replaced by Tiuí, just to get the standing ovation that he deserves. What a feckin' hero!

2-0 FT

Sporting totally controlled this 2nd half, scored a 3rd goal, that was shamelessly robbed by the ref, who unbelievably saw the opposite of what his linesman did - a ball that completely crossed the goal line.

Vitória was once again this season, in the games against the big 3, very poor, but that is not the only reason why we completely deserved this win.

Liedson, was the Man of the Match, once again.

Classic Paulo Bento on the post-match interview. No reference whatsoever to the ref but twice he says that "it's not easy to score three goals against a team like Guimarães".
