After the Cup circus, where the usual clowns took the last laugh, Liga Sagres is back with a tough test for Sporting. We are hosting the surprising leaders Leixões, a team that has been played undoubtedly some of the best football seen in this first quarter of our league.
Sporting showed against Shakhtar and especially against Porto that we are playing what is probably our best football so far this season. Even the way the crowd in Alvalade behaved in those two matches is also a sign of that. Speaking of which, this seems to be going to be our biggest game in terms of attendance so far this season.
With Tonel still injured and Caneira suspended, Paulo Bento is calling for the centre of our defence the youngster Daniel Carriço, who will be a starter for the first time in official matches for Sporting. Hopefully the start of a brilliant career in green and white for the most promising Portuguese CB of his generation.
Here's the starting XI for the game starting in 10' time:
Abel - Daniel Carriço - Anderson Polga - Miguel Veloso
João Moutinho (c) - Izmailov
Hélder Postiga - Liedson
Subs: Ricardo Batista, Pedro Silva, Grimi, Adrien, Pereirinha, Yannick Djaló and Derlei.
