PL R20: Vit. Setúbal 1-0 SPORTING; Bonfim, 24.02.2008

After our brilliant stroll in Switzerland we are back in the league to face the big surprise of this season at their stadium.

We have played Vitória de Setúbal already twice this season and still haven't managed to beat them (drew home 2-2 for the League and lost 0-1 away for the League Cup) which led Paulo Bento to say, in his pre-match press conference, that he hopes we will do it at the third attempt.

Although inconsistency has been the key word of our League displays so far, something tells me that we will manage to get the 3 points from Setúbal tonight. After all, the big derby that may decide the 2nd place is our next game and we shouldn't lose more ground to the camachitos before it.

Here's the list of players called for this match:

Goalkeepers:
Rui Patrício and Stojkovic.

Defenders:
Pedro Silva, Tonel, Polga, Grimi, Ronny and Gladstone.

Midfielders:
Miguel Veloso, Pereirinha, João Moutinho, Romagnoli, Adrien, Farnerud and Celsinho.

Forwards:
Liedson, Rodrigo Tiuí and Purovic.

The game starts at 20h15 CET

FORÇA SPORTING!!!

How surprising...Olegário is the ref and it took him 4 minutes to start robbing us. Tonel scores and he invents an offside from out of nowhere. :rollani:

I can't get any streams to work, all I've gotten is a documentary about God knows what with Portuguese subtitles but how are we playing so far?

Setúbal 1-0 Sporting HT

We have actually started quite well and even managed to score by Tonel after their keeper made an incomplete save from a great shot of Pereirinha. The linesman called an unbelievable offside and we've been robbed from a goal that would have given a radically different face to the game. We kept having much more possession but after 17' Bruno Ribeiro shot from quite far and Rui Patrício...piupiupiu...

I am the first to support Paulo Bento on his choice of keeper but the truth is that this is the second time that he costs us a goal.

After that the quality of the game went down and at 33' Setúbal reclaimed a penalty after a tackle from Grimi on Bruno Gama already inside the box. It was one of those situations that could have gone either way, actually very similar to the one that happened last weekend in Alvalade between Tiuí and Nélson.

All in all I think we still have a chance to get something out of this game but for that I think Paulo Bento needs to bring some people in. Farnerud had an OK first half but I feel that both Romagnoli and Tiuí should come in asap.

Pereirinha is now playing as RB and Celsinho on the right side of the midfield diamond and we are playing much better in this 2nd half so far.

0-1 FT

We played much better in the second half and actually did enough to at least score a goal but we always played on burning coal with too much heart and not enough brain. Too bad that we end up losing by an individual mistake but that's life. Now let's see what Braga does in the second half against Los Camachitos.

Yeah, I totally agree with you that we deserved to at least equalize in the second half. Unfortunate the way that the game turned out, who knows what would have happened had the Tonel goal been allowed. Like you said, the game would have taken a different direction. But whatever, that's the way it is in football sometimes :undecide:
