LC F4: SPORTING 3-1 Penafiel; Alvalade, 30.01.2008

When many were rubbing their greasy hands thinking that we were already dead this season...here comes the Lion! :fero:

Yes, it's with morals high that later on today we will host Penafiel in the last round of the League Cup Final Four stage. In principle a draw will be enough to take us to the final of this new competition where we will almost certainly face Vitória de Setúbal.

Paulo Bento cannot count with Polga and Liedson but he called for the first time Rodrigo Tiuí and is more than happy to see the return of Pedro Silva, after the very serious injury that kept him away from the pitches for about 4 months. Welcome back Pedro!

List of players called by PB:

Goalkeepers:
Rui Patrício and Stojkovic;

Defenders:
Pedro Silva, Marian Had, Ronny, Tonel, Pereirinha, Gladstone and Paulo Renato;

Midfielders:
Adrien, Izmailov, Farnerud, Miguel Veloso, Celsinho, João Moutinho and Romagnoli;

Forwards:
Purovic, Vukcevic and Rodrigo Tiuí.

The game is today at 20 CET in Alvalade and will be refereed by João Ferreira, the man that thinks football can be played with hands as well.

A crystal clear penalty on Celsinho that the famous handball ref, João Ferreira "missed".

3-1 FT

A normal win on an easy game. Let's hope Setúbal makes it to the final with us.

One of the main features of our game under our current coach is the swapping of positions in the midfield. Marat is a very gifted player capable of doing several positions in the attacking midfield therefore he fits like a glove at Sporting's scheme.

Like many foreign players he needed some time to adapt to our football but lately he's being one of the most, if not THE most important player in our squad. I've even read yesterday that Sporting is really interested in paying the 3,5M euros to Lokomotiv in order to buy his playing rights and have 100% of his pass.

Yea I heard Sporting is thinking about keeping him outright as well. I'm happy that he's resurrected his career.

Finalistas de corpo inteiro
by Mário Duarte in O Jogo

***

A Estrela
Izmailov (4)
