Taça: SPORTING 4-0 Louletano; Alvalade, 08.12.2007

Sporting starts defending the trophy won last season in one of the most troubled periods since Paulo Bento took over the managing seat. After all the instability caused by the poor results of the last month this is an opportunity to get back into winning ways and also to give some playing time to some players that until now did not yet receive a chance.

After reading some rumours here and there this may very well be our starting line-up for the game that kicks-off at 18h CET in Alvalade today:

Rui Patrício
Abel - Tonel - Polga - Had
Adrien Silva
João Moutinho - Vukcevic
Romagnoli
Luís Paez - Purovic

Subs: Stojkovic, Gladstone, Ronny, Miguel Veloso, Izmailov, Farnerud and Pereirinha.

I'm very curious to see Adrien and Luís Paez having their first chance this season

For the first time Luís Paez has a chance to play for the first team of Sporting. He comes in for Purovic.

4-0 FT

A good game to break the bad mood and to keep defending this trophy. Louletano was weak but so were Varzim and Atlético last season.

Sporting's defence of the second most important trophy of our football started in the best way. It's true that the opponents were not exactly of a top level but that should not take away anything from the good attitude shown by most of the team, mainly by some players, Ronny and Purovic in particular, that were very much criticised during the recent series of bad results.

It was a game not only marked by the good attacking flow that was so absent during the last month but also by the very good performance of Adrien Silva, who actually did more during the 28' on the pitch than Miguel Veloso during 62', and also by the debut of the young Paraguayan striker Luís Páez, who's been playing with our U19 squad.

The black spot of this game was the attitude of the forever and ever brainless "Juve Leo", who only supports the team when we are winning and who still think that the club is being run by their patron saint João Rocha. I hope this Board shows some coherence and punishes these clowns accordingly. Sporting doesn't need you.

Just a small note about one of my favourite players of Sporting so far this season, Abel. Here's what O Jogo had to say about his performance against Louletano:

"Mark: 3/5
