OMT: SPORTING 4-0 Naval; Alvalade, 22.04.07 - PL Round 26

After booking a place in the Cup Final the League is back with another final tonight, this time against Naval 1o. Maio. A must win game as all those still left in this season.

The main doubt about the starting XI seems to be Marco Caneira. He got slightly injured in the Cup semi-final on Wednesday against Beira-Mar and it might be that Tonel regains his place in the centre of our defense side by side with Anderson Polga.

An important note for the game that starts in a bit more than half an hour: Liedson and Polga are one yellow card away from suspension which means that if they are booked tonight they will miss the game against Benfica.

2-0 HT

A brace of Alecsandro in an absolute massacre by Sporting. Two shots on the post, a great dispaly of their keeper Taborda and another convincing attacking display by the Lions. Let's go for the 3rd!!! :fero:

Good result for sure. Important Sporting got the 3 points as Benfica did, and you need to fight them off for second place.

6 consecutive wins, 5 consecutive clean sheets, 14 games without losing...these are Sporting's numbers in the League at this stage. Like last season, we hit the top form in the last third of the season and although not depending only on ourselves, we still can get the first place which is something amazing having in mind the age of this squad and the budget for this season!

Yesterday's game was very similar to any of those we've playing in the last few weeks. Sporting entered "to kill" and after 14' we were already 2-0 up. This time the hungry Lion was Alecsandro and when half time arrived the score was really thin for all the chances we've created. It was a very easy game, but once again it was our way of playing that made it easy.

Individually, Abel had a very good game, extremely active upfront, making his first goal assist of the season and showing PB that maybe it is not only because Tonel was injured that he could keep a place in the first XI.

Miguel Veloso was once again absolutely brilliant and he is fast becoming a very serious case of consistency in our midfield. Not only he has an impressive defensive presence but he is game by game improving his passing skills and his now for me the best in that area behind Moutinho.

Nani, João Moutinho (scored for the third game in a row!) and Liedson all had a good game as well and Paulo Bento intelligently subbed o Levezinho and Polga in the middle of the 2nd half to avoid bad surprises coming from the ref...that btw failed to see a penalty on Liedson.

In a game with an hat-trick it's hard not to chose the man doing it as MoM so it is Alecsandro taking the honour. I am not a big fan of him as heavy and bulky forwards were never my cup of tea but this man surely works like a horse and does bring sometimes some needed punch to that attacking line when necessary. Had a great game last night and is trying his best to stay with us next season although IMO he doesn't really suits our style.

Now it's time for the big derby and looking at our main objective only a win interest us. If we we face that game with the same attitude and courage that we've shown on a game against even tougher opposition when we've played at Dragão, I believe we can make it.
