Just arrived from a webless weekend with the family and nothing better than reading that we've won in one of the hardest places to play this league, got our 4th consecutive win, had our 21st consecutive game without a loss away from home (!!!) and go on very close to the top

As I haven't seen nor heard the game here's the best report I've read so far from it, translated from A Bola...

Pain and pleasure together to keep the fire burning
Lion's domination during most part of the game, even when it was necessary to defend with teeth and claws the precious lead, justified the win and the continuation in the title race.

by Alexandre Pereira
Translated from A Bola

A good first half and an excelent start of the second, gave Sporting a victory that keeps alive the idea of the title. The other fuel that did not let the fire go out, was the capacity of enduring pain, brought back to life a few weeks ago as a trade mark of the young squad of Paulo Bento.

Sp. Braga did what they could in the second half, when João Pinto cleaned up the house and pushed the Lions closer to their box, and then was Sporting's turn to strengthen their organisation and become totally available to fight. There are some that suffer very much to be able to have some moments of pleasure. In the case of Sporting yesterday, it was the opposite: first they had fun (a lot of it) and then they suffered (a good deal of it).

A Lion start

Sporting showed in the game very relaxed, with João Moutinho back to the place that he's been owning for a hundred games, the rest of the team being the same that beat Beira-Mar the previous weekend. Braga's box was clearly the path chosen by th Lion's youth and that was clear immediately at the 2nd minute when Tello had a free kick in a dangerous area. Soon afterwards Paulo Santos showed attention to a shot by Nani, and right after that Tello had again one of his free kicks, still before the first quarter of an hour was completed, Liedson had a header that almost made the 0-1.

The hosts maybe were expecting a more refrained Sporting. Here may lie part of the explanation for the trouble they felt right from the kick off. Braga's midfield collapsed to the Lions' pressure. Vandinho, half a surprise in the first XI, did not carry the attacking game as Jorge Costa expected him to do. If the coach would've known how much João Pinto would be missed (it was proven in the second half) probably he would've given him a place in the starting line-up. But the life of someone that leads a team is just like that, and the essential is to concede to the Lions the merit of having controlled the match so clearly.

It is certain that from the 25th minute on, approximately, the rhythm of the game slowed down a little. Braga players started to mark better and the freedom given at the start did not happen so often. In any case the tone of the game kept on being green and Sp. Braga only through a free kick created some relative danger close to the half hour.

Goal...and João Pinto

After the break, Sporting returned the same: very dynamic, interested in treating well and fast the ball, betting on the pleasure of playing as a tool to earn the victory. Kept up the pressure, Yannick took wrong decisions in two occasions that could have been decisive, and finally, at the 52nd minute, the goal came: a magical pass of Romagnoli, a difficult save by Paulo Santos and Nani heading to the explosion of joy that the Lions already justified.

It was impossible to wait any longer: Jorge Costa called João Pinto and automatically brings excitement to the crowd and to the team. Sporting, getting the message, rolled up the sleeves. The first substitution of Paulo Bento was a sign for the team not to retreat (Yannick by Alecsandro), but Braga started to push very strongly and the Lions did not have any other choice than taking the risk to defend the lead closer to their box. João Pinto was organising, the wing backs were going more forward, afterwards Cesinha came in to the place of Carlos Fernandes and Braga's left wing became even more dangerous. During 15 minutes, sometime between the 60' and the 75', the equaliser was close by. Miguel Veloso lead at that point the Lions' attitude. He was not ashamed of playing in suffering, got close to the full backs, and with the precious help of Polga and Caneira got rid of almost all the danger. Maciel was close to the goal, Zé Carlos menaced Ricardo. Afterwards the storm calmed down. Braga was on top until the end, but there was too much heart, and João Pinto's head was not enough to keep the coolness. With Paulo Jorge transformed into a striker, the shower of balls close to Ricardo only made Sporting winning some more time.

According to A Bola, this was the Man of the Match:

Miguel Veloso:
A show of force, determination and importance at the heart of Sporting's team. Braga did not take enough care of Veloso's area of action, and he took advantage to at least during one hour, to make a giant of Sporting's game, subjugating the home team to a pale role in a game of high intensity. The arrival of João Pinto took him space but highlighted his fighting capacity.

Highlights of the game:
