Translated from Record
Sporting became vice-champion of the Group A of the Cup of European Club Champions in Athletics, that happened this weekend in Albufeira, with victories of Luch Moscow in both categories (men and women).
The Lions reached in this way their best result since their win in 2000, at Vila Real de Santo António.
Sporting had once again Francis Obikwelu in great form (he won the 200 metres race in 20,93 seconds), while Rui Silva guaranteed the other win (on 3000 metres) of the second round.
"It was a bit hard for me, after yesterday's races. I had a pain on my knee and I didn't want to risk too much but I ended up making an extra effort to be able to win", said the Luso-Nigerian, that considered to be "positive" the second place obtained by Sporting in the tournament.
According to Rui Silva, who concluded the 3000 metres in 8.02.92 minutes: "It was a different story: I have tried to keep concentrated to avoid being attacked by surprise and I've managed to strike well in the last lap."
Special notice also for the second place of Mário Teixeira, on the 3000 metres steeplechase, with 8.45,08 minutes, after the Fenerbahçe athlete, Halil Akkas.
