PAULO BENTO renova por dois anos
in "A Bola", 10 May 2006

Paulo Bento será assim, o rosto do futuro próximo do futebol leonino.

Great news for Sporting!
Our current coach Paulo Bento agreed to sign a two year deal with Sporting!

Sá Pinto decidiu continuar: «Tenho condições físicas e psicológicas para jogar»
in MaisFutebol
by Nuno Travassos, 11.05.2006

Ricardo Sá Pinto reconsidered his previous decision of finishing his professional football career as a player and decided to play one more year for Sporting.

Good for the locker room and good for the team spirit!

apparently Paulo Bento doesnt want Sa Pinto for next season....

i find it a bit strange since he was always playing him, and almost never subbing him, but maybe soares franco has something to do with it?

lets see what happens

Apparently Paulo Bento told Sá Pinto before he took the decision of go on playing for another year that he was not counting with him for the next season...so, if there is something strange here it is the decision of Sá Pinto and not of Paulo Bento.

p.s. kleber: Congrats! you had the 1000th post of Sporting's thread!

Paulo Bento signs new Sporting deal
Friday, 12 May 2006
in uefa.com

Sporting Clube de Portugal have decided the futures of two key men while a question mark remains against Ricardo Sá Pinto's participation next season.

Bento rewarded
Coach Paulo Bento is rewarded for guiding Sporting to second place in the Liga and qualification for the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League group stage. The former Portuguese international has signed a two-year contract to continue the work he started midway through the season when he replaced José Peseiro at the helm. Formerly a midfielder with Sporting, SL Benfica and Real Oviedo, among others, he had been employed in the club's youth department before taking charge.

Abel boost
Also prolonging his stay with the Lisbon outfit is right-back Abel, who has been handed a three-year deal after impressing during a six-month loan spell from SC Braga. The 27-year-old, whose previous sides include FC Penafiel and Vitória SC, said: "It is an honour to represent this club."

Shrouded in doubt
However, the future of Sá Pinto remains a mystery. The 33-year-old centre-forward and club talisman had announced yesterday that he was reneging on a decision to retire this summer, yet that statement was contradicted today by Sporting president Filipe Soares Franco: "Sá Pinto will not be renewing his contract. He is a Sporting icon and the doors of the club are always open to him, but not those of the first team."

well done to keep Abel!
