Your players at VVV

Didn't know where to put it so decided to create a new thread, but feel free to merge if you want so.

At this moment three youngsters from Porto are on loan at VVV.

1. Diogo Viana:
He was the first one to arrive before last season. During last season he played quite a lot as a subtitute, but usually not more than 10 minutes each game.
However as a true winger he created danger. As we sold a winger to Feyenoord he took his place so far and he's doing very well, in pre-season and during the first two league games. This could be his season.

2. Josué Pesqueira:
Arrived this summer together with Chula. In pre-season he looked a bit feeling strange here in the Netherlands, however since the league started he's playing as a starter as an attacking midfielder just behind our striker.

3. Jorge Chula:
Arrived this summer together with Josué. Haven't seen much of him yet so it's hard to comment, played in some games in pre-season but didn't really impress.

Some questions, do you guys know (one of) these players?

Also, what does the co-operation between VVV and Porto mean exactly?

No Porto diehards here?

Lex Immers - Pace & power. Holland's #1 box to box player

Feyenoord forum - the place to talk about this phenomenon

I can say that Diogo Viana was formed in Sporting's Academy so he is bound to be good. He went to Porto included in Hélder Postiga's transfer deal a couple of seasons ago. I am not sure that was the best move for him because Porto unfortunately seems to be following Benfica's steps in what concerns giving chances to young Portuguese players in their first squad.

Thanks for the information buddy, really appreciated.

Quite a few people in Portugal are high on Diogo Viana.

I hope he see's alot of playing time this season and continues to impress, I've never seen him play so can you describe his style for me?

Thanks!

He is a traditional winger (left footed) in the good style of so many that came out of our academy. He is very fast and uses his speed rather than his dribbling skills to beat the opposition. If he lives up to the expectations he created during his time with us I think he will be back in Porto fairly soon.

We're not giving chances to young Portuguese players, yet...

- Signed Varela on a free and he's become an integral piece of the team.
- Beat the competitors for Ruben Micael's signature last winter.
- Brought in Miguel Lopes and have given him responsibility in the team.
- Signed Sereno, 25 year old Portuguese CB, this summer
- Recalled from Ukra and Castro from their loans and they form part of the team this year (homegrown players)

How is that ignoring Portuguese talent? If anything, Porto's approach has changed drastically in the last 12-14 months and now target young Portuguese players all over the world.

This kid seems a good prospect?

YouTube videos have led to a number of footballers getting signed by clubs around the world, but this might be the first time it's worked for an 18-month-old.

It's very much a publicity stunt, but the popular YouTube clip of young Baerke van der Meij kicking balls into his toy chest caught the attention of relegation-threatened Dutch top flight club VVV-Venlo and prompted the club to sign him to a 10-year professional contract. Though, it is made clear that the contract is a "symbolic" one.

From the Telegraph:
The toddler joined VVV's star midfielder Ken Leemans during a training session in De Koel Stadium on Tuesday before being offered the "symbolic" contract.

"The toddler's favourite position has not yet been determined. However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly: football genes via his grandfather," said a VVV Venlo press release.

Baerke's grandfather used to play for the club and his family still lives in the city of Venlo.

As silly as this whole thing is, VVV-Venlo really did a great job of selling it, even going so far as to have the little boy attend a press conference and sign a contract. Well, scribble on one, anyway. Here are some pictures from the event...

Why did you post that here?

This is the FC Porto forum, not the VVV Venlo forum.

This thread is for our players on loan there, not that club's silly stories.
