Ricardo Quaresma - nosso cigano maravilhoso

This is a thread to talk about arguably Portugal's best young talent, Ricardo Quaresma.

Before anybody jumps on me for calling him a gypsy, that's a nickname for him and his family is of gypsy descent(I believe his father).

He was named the best player of the Portuguese league last season, capping off a fantastic season. This year, his form has been tremendous and he's scoring goals every second game practically. He has also matured significantly since his troubles in Spain, and is, above Anderson and Lucho, the heart and soul of my FC Porto.

A quirky fact... Quaresma's first ever professional game for Sporting, the team responsible for breaking him into Portuguese football, came against FC Porto, the team responsible for bringing him back to Portuguese football.

How old is he now? 23?

This guy has great technique, I've never seen anyone control the ball with the outside of his foot as well as Quaresma does. He should move to Liverpool and show CR7 what's, what p

@FIG: for your information, Quaresma is 100% gypsy and not only from his father's side although I fail to see why that would make people jump on you?

Obviously he feels there are negative connotations associated with being a Gypsie, thus felt necessary to explain his calling of Queresma a Cigano.

Only people with strong prejudices or simply ignorant bricks still judge others based on their nationality, ethnic background or religion...and I think FIG is not one of those, thus my surprise...well, apart from what he says about people from Barcelona maybe :rollani:

As Pila said, sometimes people unfortunately associate calling somebody a gypsy with a racist term, and I just wanted to make sure nobody felt that way or got that impression. It's no big deal, let's focus on the wonder that is Quaresma.

He's a stud, no doubt about it. Atletico's interested in him and his price tag is supposedly 11 million euro. If that's truly the case then he'd be a bargain.

Actually, it's a natural and normal tendency, one with deep roots to our survival and territorial instincts. It requires a real conscious effort, disciplined deconditioning to refrain from doing it completely. So it does not take only ignorant bricks and extreme prejudice to judge people by their sect, but rather just a most ordinary, otherwise balanced individual.

Having said that, we all owe ourselves the effort to judge individuals on an individual basis and refrain from generalizing.

Well, except with Portistas, of course, where it’s perfectly acceptable to generalize them as drunk, farm-animal loving, cave-dwelling geeks who wear discolored socks and hate sunlight. Because it’s true.

I'll take your word for it as Argentinan sect is out of my area of expertise.

Is this true? If I was Porto boss I'd want double that.

Are reports in Portugal suggesting he will move on or is it just complete fabrication by Spanish media.

The only rumor from OJogo, a Porto concentrated newspaper, is citing Spanish sources. Nothing from within Portugal or any quotes from PdC, Quaresma, etc.

I just can't help but feel PdC, who's in the past always demanded ludicrous fees, would ask for more than 12 M Euros. We're fighting for back-to-back league titles and scraping qualification for the next CL phase, and losing Quaresma would be an absolutely massive blow not only on the pitch but for what he represents to the fans.

Either that, or our financial situation is worse than I thought, and the 12 M Euros would go a long way to rectifying that and getting a couple of extensions done, even though the most difficult one(Lucho), has just been taken care of.

Well if you really want to know the answer is: no. Unfortunately Liverpool's name was not yet mentioned in this affair. I'd much rather see him wrecking Arse's and Chelsky's defenses than the one of Barcelona

Just a Quaresma fan, that lump on our right wing is our captain so sadly unless he moves back to the center their isn't much chance of us entering the race. We do need a left winger however, how do you rate our chance of getting Nani from your club ahead of Man Utd?

Thanks for the information FIG and congrats on your new role.
