Euro 2013 U-21

As we all know and are very proud of it Israel will host next summer the prestigious U-21 Euro 2013 tournament. The qualifiers ended last month and last week was held the draw.

Group A

Israel
England
Norway
Italy

Group B

Spain
Netherlands
Germany
Russia

The two best teams advance from each group to make the semifinals and consequently the winner play the final.

There are no easy games here and Israel are the clear underdogs, but we usually have good results at this level and playing at home might be a key factor to at least pull some points.

The U-21 will host a mini tournament next week where Germany and Serbia will participate.
The games will be played in Netanya and the focus is the preparation for the summerīs competition.

Preparation tournament doesnīt necessarly need to have the participants of the Euro. Serbia has a particular style of play and for Israel it will be a good test for the U-21.
If you mean by the Serbian perspective, it is always good to be invited to a tournament and instead of staying home without playing they will travel.

U-21 coach Guy Luzon said today Dor Mikha wonīt be part of the squad for the upcoming tournament to be held in Israel!

The Maccabi Tel Aviv offensive midfielder had an important part in the clubs title with solid performances and gaining the starting lineup throughout the season. Luzon explained that in his point of view Eyal Golasa and Israel Zaguri are ahead of him in the positions and probably he wouldnīt have enough playing time in the tournament.

Another Maccabi Tel Aviv player, Moshiko Lugassi, was left out of the squad aswell, this time Luzon didnīt give any further explanations!

What do you guys think of this?

Full squad announced:

Keepers:

Boris Kleiman (Hapoel Tel Aviv)

Barak Levi (Maccabi Tel Aviv)

Arik Yanko (Hakoach Ramat Gan)

Defenders:

Adi Gotlieb (Hapoel Akko)

Ido Levi (Maccabi Netanya)

Ben Wahaba (Ironi Kiryat Shmona)

Ahad Azaam (Hapoel Haifa)

Ofr Davizada (Hapoel Beer Sheva)

Omri Ben Harush (Maccabi Netanya)

Taleb Twatkha (Maccabi Haifa)

Eli Dasa (Beitar Jerusalem)

Sari Fallach (Bnei Yehuda)

Ofer Verta (SC Ashdod)

Midfielders:

Nir Biton (SC Ashdod)

Ben Butbul (SC Ashdod)

Ofir Kriaf (Beitar Jerusalem)

Marwan Kabha (Maccabi Petah Tikva)

Eyal Golasa (Maccabi Haifa)

Israel Zaguri (Hapoel Ramat Gan)

Sintyahu Solilech (Ironi Kiryat Shmona)

Omri Altman (Fulham - England)

Forwards:

Or Baruch (Bnei Yehuda)

Muanes Dabbur (Maccabi Tel Aviv)

Ahmed Abed (Ironi Kiryat Shmona)

Mohamed Kalibat (Bnei Sakhnin)

Alon Turgeman (Maccabi Haifa)

Not a bad squad, but we are clearly underdogs in the comeptition. Still viewing this final list I still canīt understand how Dor Mikha and Moshiko Lugassi are out!!! Incredible!! Couldnīt Mikha be at the expense of Kabha for instance? But then we begin to understand, Kabha plays for Maccabi Petah Tikva which is owned by the Luzon family which you know run the IFA and has Guy Luzon as coach. So of course politics make part of it! Apparently there are rumours that Zaguri will play for Maccabi Petah Tikva next season which reinforces even more this connection.
Very unfortunate.
Zaguri made a great season with Ramat Gan while Golasa wasnīt very consistent for Maccabi Haifa even though I believe he is vital for the U-21. But Mikha played for the champions and great football. As for Lugassi, I also canīt understand because from all the midfielders called up you donīt have real watchdog in midfield. Biton plays that position, but he is more a central midfielder with good passing while Ben Butbul is could also make that role, but none of them are any better than Lugassi currently.

Upfront not sure what we could find, honestly speaking most of the players played in the teams on the lower part of the standings and not with big impact. Maybe I am being too critical, but anyways wish the NT luck.

Maybe for now I would field the following team.

Kleiman, Verta, Wahaba, Fallach (if in form, if not then Ido Levi), Twatkha; Biton, Golasa, Zaguri; Solilech, Altman (Dabbur), Baruch

Yeah 6 out of 26 players. Quite a good sample for the current population proportion in Israel. Around 20%.

Still canīt believe Dor Mikha is out of this squad. One of the best players this season in the league. His goal last week in the derby is just a small proof of his great vision and capacity.

He would be very useful for the team and not only he should be in the squad he should be a starter! Having Golasa, Mikha and Nir Biton in midfield would be a great combination!

Maybe he doesn't get along with Luzon?

Yeah, mostly muslims and pro palestinian european groups who saw the chance to provoke Israel once again. Nothing serious happened and the tournament will be played normally.
