Avram Grant rumoured to coach Northern Ireland!

Avram Grant is being rumoured as a strong candidate to coach Northern Ireland in the 2014 qualifiers according to BBC. Another leading candidate to substitute Nigel Winterburn is David Jones who coched Cardiff City and was the one who brought in Dekel Keinan from Maccabi Haifa.

If this news really confirms itself, Grant would face Israel in the qualifiers as both are paired in the same group. Besides this, this should make the name of Eli Gutman even more stronger in the rumours to assume the NT as Grant was also being speculated to return as NT manager.

What do you guys think about this?

I can't see him getting the job. I don't know where his reputation comes from. He's now relegated two different clubs.

Well one could argue that he already had a good experience at NT level with Israel leading the team to a respectable World Cup qualifier campaign and unbeaten in a group against France, Switzerland and Ireland. Israel was third and lost the second place on goal difference to the Swiss.

In Israel besides the NT he was one of the winning coaches being champion with Maccabi Haifa and the responsible for the blossoming of Yossi Benayoun.

In England we all know his history, maybe his peak was reaching the Champions League final with Chelsea and being unfortunate that Terry slipped in his penalty kick, other than that bad campaigns with West Ham and Portsmouth, despite reaching the League Cup final with them.

But I agree he isn`t the right guy for Northern Ireland and he would receive extra pressure since they are in the same group as Israel.

As we have imagined, Avram Grant won´t coach Northern Ireland as he said today in an interview. But the veteran coach he will very soon coach and that he wants to stay in England.

He would have been a good asset to them....Would have played very well vs. Russia and Israel and had a breeze with Azerbijian and N. Ireland.
