VENUE: Boris Paichadze National Stadium, Tbilisi, Georgia



Well after our debut with a 3-1 victory at Ramat Gan against Malta, israel faces a tricky challenge in Tblisi against Georgia. The hosts come from a very good result drawing Greece, one of the group contenders in Athens and will surely be motivated against Israel as well.

Our performance against Malta didn`t inspire too much confidence ahead of this clash especially among the fans. What do you guys expect of this game? Will Fernandez keep the same lineup?

I expect Israel to come away with 3 points. The matches against Latvia will be tricky. If they want to prove the can play in Euro 2012, then beating Georgia is must.

Look at that stadium! Every single country in the world has a legit national stadium and we have still play in shthole Ramat Gan. Then we wonder why we never qualify for anything.


Anyways, I don't expect Georgia will be an easy team to break down after watching parts of their game against Greece. But if Vermouth is brought into the lineup, Shecther is fit, while Benayoun remains in the middle, then I think we have a good chance of winning. But the defense is definitely worrying, Keinan should come back into CB with Cohen moving to defensive midfield. Ben Dayan was shocking in the first game so I would give Ziv a chance but he doesn't inspire much confidence either. Unfortunately Bondar is the only option we have at RB right now as he is better defensively than Kende.

Ramat Gan may not look pretty but it is a 4-star stadium in UEFA. Besides, the stadium is not the reason for not qualifying, its the players inside the stadium that matters.

Maybe you guys will bash me here, but I believe Avidor would be a very good option for the Georgia game. He is in great form, full of confidence and his speed will suit the counterattacks mode in which probably Fernandez will field the team. Georgia will be motivated and will throw itself forward opening spaces.

Play with 3 CB's, forget about LB and RB. We clearly dont have the quality to employ those positions. I dont see any problems with a 3-5-2 formation.

Put in the 2 DM's to provide some cover for the CB's. Georgia isn't this almighty attacking team that tears defense's to pieces. Cohen and Kiyal are more then capable of breaking down any attack from the Gruzinim.

Are you serious? if you use 3-5-2 it's usually when you got good wingback, we obviusly don't.. this lineup is wayyy too offensive.

Don't waste your time on jealously; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.

The race is long, and in the end - it's only with yourself.

i would say Fernandez would use something like this....

what kind of team sits back against Malta? I couldn't believe what I was seeing, watching them pass the ball to each other like it was some sort of training session.
I like Fernandez, but if he actually gave those instructions to sit back after the goal, he is a fking idiot.

If he didnt, then, simply put, our team sucks sht.

i really like this lineup....just would change Ben Dayan for Ziv

I agree with Lior in his 3-5-2 analysis, the problem is that we don`t have the players for the CURRENT set up of Fernandez. But we do have players that could play in this position for example:

Three central defenders, Ben Haim, Keinan and Strul.

The wingbacks, Dor Malul on the right side, Yoav Ziv on the left side. Two players that advance very well and have some defensive notion and that aren`t very good to play on a flat four because offense is their focus.

In DM Kiyal and Natkho. Biram would be in a more defensive role to protect the three defenders, Bibras would have more liberty to advance and jelp in playmaking.

Benayoun as our main playmaker on the best position that suits him well in the center, with Shechter and Barda upfront. It would be a balanced team at the same protected at the back and plenty of options upfront.


In the case of playing a bigger team and want more tackling in midfield take Natkho and place Tamir Cohen or even could place Avidor for counterattacks to pair Shechter.

So IMO the 3-5-2 is good for us if we place the right players. With the current squad I agree with Or that we can`t use it.

Against Georgia, Fernandez tested some changes in lineup in practice today.
Keinan would take Tamir Cohen´s place while Vermut would play in Zahavi´s place to pair with Sahar upfront.
Shechter is in very big doubt for the game. I also believe we should spare him of playing this game, we should rest him for the next month important games against Croatia and Greece.
