Latvia vs Israel - Oct 15 2008

Again, this should be a win. But Latvia is a decent team and they made the Euro's in 2004 I believe.

Changes for this game, I would put in Buzaglo and Sahar. Bench Barda or Golan and Kiyal. Move Benayoun to the middle where he can be more effective and have Buzaglo play on the right.

Or give Benayoun or Buzaglo a free role.

If they play against Latvia the same way, I wouldnt be surprised with a loss.

Your suggestions are good, but Kashtan will never do that. If against Luxembourg he was conservative imagine now in Latvia. One thing will be better for us: Latvia will play their hopes of qualifying in this match, a loss means they are saying good bye to the fight, meaning they will push forward, we will need to be very attentive, but we will have space for our counter attacks which are very dangerous.

The team guess will be the same that started Saturday.

BTW, Golan silently is carving his spot in this team. In the beggining of the campaign everyone talked about Barda and Collauti and Ben Sahar coming in the matches, maybe Itzhaki (who is not even being called anymore) and now Golan is taking the upperhand.
In the last four official games he scored three goals.

Even though we won yesterday, I feel extremely embarrassed to support this team. I watched the game yesterday and there were times where, by the way they played, I didn't know who was Luxembourg and who was Israel. That's really sad. Also, who in their right state of mind would think that a top-20 ranked team would go on the field against Luxembourg with two defensive midfielders?

Berko is right. Bozaglo and Sahar must start. As soon as Bozaglo got on the field against Moldova, the whole game changed and Israel were attacking more often and were constantly pressing forward. He also had the two assists in that game. Sahar, on the other hand, is a completely different player than the other strikers. Israel, for some reason, tends to pass the ball when they're in the opponents' penalty area instead of looking to shoot the ball towards the goal. That's why Sahar is our best striker. He plays in England where the game is played at a fast pace and he has only one thing on his mind when he gets the ball that close to goal: SCORE!!! Unless he has a teammate that's wide open, he's not going to pass. As soon as he gets the ball, he's going to blast the ball towards the net and try to catch the keeper off guard. That's what we need so desperately, especially against Latvia.

Golan benefits from playing with his club every game, so he's constantly fit to play and his experience in Europe will play a big role, too. I like his attitude. He's not the type that demands attention. He does his job and that's it. He won't criticize or complaint if he's not in the line-up. His priority is the team, and not himself. I wish we had more players like that on the team...

First of all: is the game streamed live on www.livetv.ru again? The quality of the stream of Lux.-Israel was excellent so I hope they stream the next game again.

If not, then does anyone know another site streaming the game live?

As for the game: just like versus Luxembourg, only a win is good enough. In order to play against Greece without a lot of pressure, we cannot drop points against teams like Luxembourg, Moldova or Latvia. So we must win this one, but I do rate Latvia higher than the other two "small teams". So this time I would not use a 4-3-3. I think a narrow win (0-1, 1-2 or so) would be OK. Latvia is no giant, but they are no minnow that swallows goals more than anything else, so this time 3 points is what we need regardless what score.

Latvia indeed qualified for the Euro 2004 but it was a once off success (even though they reached the tournament by beating Turkey in the play offs, so definitely not a bad team back then) and the team has been going downhill after that tournament. I would rate them at about the same level as Slovenia, Austria, Belarus, ... Not to be underestimated, and hopefully the players realise this and dont take this too easy. But if Israel is playing in normal pace, then it should be another 3 points.

Israel is in a position they could not underestimate anyone. Latvia is a tricky opponent and almost took points from Switzerland on Saturday. A narrow with 3 points on the bag is more than enough for me. We must win this game, period. Doesn't matter how. Remember after Latvia we have two crucial clashes against Greece which will probably decide the future of this group, so it is good to come with a moral to face the tough Greek side.

Hmm it'll be tough to win in Latvia. Hopefully Kashtan will get some sense through his thick skull, and start an attacking lineup. Benayoun is injured, I wouldnt start him.

1 thing for sure.. Kashtan should stop making subs just to justify taking players from the U-21 team, and make them with a real honest intention of changing the game for the better.

Kashtan is very conservative and if Israel is winning he will delay as much as he can to change things around.

Kick off time is 19:00 CET right? Or is it 19:00 Jerusalem time (18:00 CET)?

I bet on a narrow 1-2 win. I would be pleased with it as well, the points matter for now and not the way how they were gained. Although for goal difference purposes, any extra goal is welcomed, Greece already has a +8 goal difference ...

News for today's game:

Yossi Benayoun is likely to play. He will get some injections, but there is no major danger for him.

The squad will be the same as in the Luxembourg game
Dudu Awat, Klemi Saba, Tal Ben Haim, Dekel Keinan, Dedi Ben-Dayan, Gal Alberman, Biram Kiyal, Yossi Benayoun, Salim Toama, Omer Golan and Elyaniv Barda

Roberto Colautti is not included in the squad. The bench will be: Liran Strauber, Avi Strul, Yoav Ziv, Moshe Ohayon, Maor Buzaglo, Ben Sahar and Itay Shechter.

What I dont really understand is why Shechter doesn't play for the U-21 today. Roberto could have been on the bench instead of him. But OK, this is Kashtan's decision.

My opinion: A defensive lineup again, the same squad but hopefully not the same quality of game we will play today. The Latvians should be beatable, we have to defend Maris Verpakovkis, who is a dangerous striker and one of 4 legionaries of the Latvians. Referee will be the Slovak Vladimir Hrinak.

Kashtan is an idiot. That lineup is terrible.

Great we're going to get to see 90 minutes of long ball, FANTASTIC!

So im guessing he'll sub in Sahar in the 80th minute, Buzaglo in the 88th minute and then Shechter in the 89th minute (just to justify his calling up of him)

Im sorry, but Kashtan is a F*CKING idiot.
