The U-21 Thread

Israel and Germany are tied after today's surprising victory of Moldova vs. Germany. Both teams have to play two more games.

Israel will face Luxembourg on 5th September, and Germany - the key game - on 9th September.

Germany will face Northern Ireland on the same date as Israel will face Luxembourg.

2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-off draw
First leg: 11/12 October
Second leg: 14/15 October

Germany v France
Denmark v Serbia
Turkey v Belarus
Austria v Finland
Wales v England
Italy v Israel
Switzerland v Spain

So... We got Italy... :nervous:
I was hoping for an easier draw, but since we were able to knock out France two years ago with one foreign-based player, I like our chances this time with two foreign-based players...

Also, I think Ivanir needs to call up all the eligible players that were recently with the senior team. With the mentality of the U-21 team, anything is possible... :hopeful:

The Italian team is very good and it will be tough, but the pressure is all on them.
Their coach Casiraghi said he doesn't know much about Israel, but that for reaching this stage means his NT needs to be alert.

"Israel U-21 will host Italy U-21 at Ramat Gan Stadium" (Hebrew)

The main points of the article:
1- The home game will be held at Ramat Gan on October 15th.
2- Due to high travel demands to Italy for the holidays, the IFA couldn't book tickets on any Israeli airline to Rome, so they will be flying "Alitalia" to Rome.
3- The team will observe the holiday in the Jewish community in Rome and then head to Ancona for the first leg at Stadio del Conero on October 11th.
4- The team will hold a two-day training camp on Tuesday(Sep. 23rd). Moti Ivanir will announce the call-ups Saturday night.

I think it's a shame that the team couldn't book a flight with a local airline. Also, I hope tickets will be 5 shekels or less, because we will need 40,000 people in that stadium if we're going to win...

Well if Buzaglo gets to play for the team, you never know, maybe Sahar will recover? I would guess that Buzaglo and Assulin will both play in that game.

The Israel FA tried to change the venues order so that it wouldn't have problem with the Jewish holidays, Italian coach Casiraghi had no problem, but the FA didn't agree.

Hey, it's better than playing in an empty 40,000-seat stadium. At least now, the team will feel like they're actually playing at home.

Questions:
Tayacho Chekol - Is he Nigerian or Ethiopian Israeli? and is he Jewish? (There's no infos about him on net)
Dela Yampulski - from Nigeria - adopted by his Russian Israeli step father, and moved to Israel with his stepfather and mother. So I am wondering, did Dela converted to Judaism?

Honestly? I don´t think so. Maybe the same happened with Tamuz.

0:0 draw in the first leg match in Ancona, a very good result. Israel put on a great fight, something that has become traditional for the youth teams of Israel over the years.

I saw most of the 1st half. Israel looked good, really good.

Italy didnt play that well, seemed like the referee was getting a bit annoyed with some of the Italians antics too.

I saw the game. Overall Italy has been the much better team missed some great chance. Israel didnt really have really good chances, but we defended pretty well. (Great game by Shiran Yieni and Almog Cohen). A good result for the game in Bloomfield in some days.

Gai Assulin to me is still a phenomenon, he is so fast, has a wonderful ball control, but he still not physical enough, but we can see his talent in every game. In this game he got too many problems with the strength of the italian players.

Yup, I noticed the same thing during his Barça Atletic appearances. He needs to bulk up a bit otherwise the opponents can knock the ball off him too easily. Nevertheless I hope he'll be promoted to the first team next season. I think he'd get lots of playing time as we don't have many wide players anyways.

Also saw the game. Tactically speaking, Israel was really good. Everyone was committed and new very well what to do in the pitch. We were having some problems on the wings defending from constant Italian attack, especially when Giovinco attacked on the left wing of the attack against Omri Canada who received an early yellow card. LIke previously said here our two defensive midfielders, Almog Cohen and Shiran Yeni had a very good game. Natcho was discrete and Asulin did good plays, but was the only one in charge to feed Abuhatzira and Avidor and he was carefully marked. Rafaelov entered in the second half and we had better attacking performance, we became more dangerous and Tal ben Haim (the same name of the Manchester City defender) gave the Italian defense some hard time, but didn't have scoring opportunities. Rafaelov should start in Bloomfield. Also a good note the central defenders Lior Jan and Oshri Rosh who despite not being so tall managed to take the aerial balls from Italy.

Good result overall. Now the media is saying that some of the senior squad could come to help the U-21. Don't know who will come. May Shechter and Kial?
