Euro 2008 qualifiers: Israel - Macedonia

After an inspiring win and certainly to be remembered among English fans for a long time Israel faces Macedonia in its last game of the Euro 2008 qualifiers this Wednesday at Ramat Gan stadium. Dror Kashtan is expected to field almost the same lineup that started against Russia. For the match defensive midfielder Biram Kiel was called up and could make his debut on the senior squad.

Well Macedonia has proved to be a tough team to beat and they won in Skopje last Saturday against Croatia something we weren´t able to do. So dont expect to be such an easy game. But i believe that we could build a good result if we manage to score first.

Oh and don´t forget that we have some extra motivation for the match: If Israel wins they will be seeded on pot 3 for the WC qualifiers. Currently we are on pot 4.

FSC (in North America) will be showing a replay of the game at 2:00 pm.

We are missing two of our best players in Pandev and Naumoski so for me a draw would be good result especially since Tel Aviv is one of the hardest places for an opposing team to win. Only the Croats were able to beat you there so i'm not expecting much out of this game. But our defense has been solid throughout this campaign (only Russia beat us by more then a goal) so i don't see a blowout. My prediction is 1-0 for you but i hope it's 1-1 draw.

Can someone explain the POT thing please? So now that we are in POT 3 what does that mean?

Come world cup 2010 Q, the what we will get is this:
POT 1 and 2 (Say France Pot 1 - Croatia Pot 2)

and then Israel in Pot 3

and then anyone of these teams are Pot 4
28 Hungary 614
29 Macedonia 586
30 Slovakia 584
31 Moldova 570
32 Belgium 563
33 Wales 542
34 Cyprus 527
35 Lithuania 479
36 Belarus 437

and say Pot 5 - is lets say...... ummm Luxemborg

and then Pot 6 - Lets say..... Montenegro

I feel like were gonna get Montenegro!!!

Hope it is official. Anyways the ISraeli media is reporting that a win will secure us 100%, maybe if we lose we could go to pot 4 depending on other results. But honestly, Sweden and Denmark in pot 3 and Northern Ireland in pot 2? Howcome? I mean this campaign Northern Ireland is good, but i don´t remember of them making some great campaigns in recent time.

Regarding the game:

Official lineup: Awat; Shpungin, Ben Haim, Keinan, Ziv; Cohen, Ohayon, Buzgalo, Itzhaki; Barda, Collauti.

The only difference from the starting lineup from the Russia game is Ohayon entering in expense of Gal Alberman who received a yellow card Saturday and is suspended and Ben Sahar who gives his space to Collauti that returns after some games out of the squad.

Best of luck guys.

I am not Israeli, but it's one of my dreams in life to spend a year in Israel sometime. Working permits make it very hard, but the fascination for Israel is still there so I like to see Israel do well. And you know already I'm an Awat fan. Best of luck tonight so that you're definitely in pot 3 for the world cup draw.

Can anyone put the highlights on YouTube again? I downloaded those of the previous Israel games (except England-Israel, no point in having that night on my hard drive) so I would like to get the highlights again. No TV station broadcasts it here unfortunately.

El el Israel!
