Whether it’s national team or club Italian teams rarely beat Croatian ones, even Hajduk have beaten Inter in recent years ffs Two overly emotional countries with similar shit attitudes

This Atalanta team is hardly Italian though. Only Gollini and the match-fixer Masiello. They had the same amount of Dutchmen and BiH Croats playing today

Can't believe I'm defending the Italian NT, but you do realize that they have four gold stars on their jersey.

I want to party with Domagoj Vida!!

That's the same thing I've been wondering about the while watching the first half. Dinamo scored and created chances easier than against Fradi. But then again, the end result was the same so.

Without Jesus, a hopeless end. With him, an endless hope.

Krikowiak low-key is one of the best midfielders in EE; enormous tactical versatility.

A combination of ineptitude from the larger Italian clubs with money (Milan, Roma etc) and the work of Gasperini who manages to build teams that are greater than the sum of their individual parts.

They would have qualified for CL 2 years ago when they finished 4th but Italy only had 3 spots back then. That was the team of Caldara, Conti, Cristante, Gagliardini, Kessie, Petagna and Krle's cousin Pesic. A lot of those guys were sold for good money to bigger clubs and none of them have really worked out. Some because of injury, others because of a genuine lack of quality as they were made to look a lot better than they actually are due to Gasperini's system.

The funds from those player sales were used to build the next Atalanta team with Ilicic being the most notable addition. Last season they arguably played the best football in Italy and deservedly finished 3rd despite having the 14th biggest wage bill in the league. A great achievement from what is essentially a provincial club.

They play very attacking and managed to score the most goals in the league. However, they are suspect defensively due to how open they play and are prone to losing to smaller sides because of this.

This season they are clearly not playing at the same level and were fortunate to beat a limited Genoa side on the weekend. Their squad is very thin and not really built to compete on multiple fronts. Even with CL money they didn't really add much in the summer and lost their best defender, Mancini, to Roma. They are a couple of injuries to key players from a slide down to mid-table.

Last season they were eliminated by Copenhagen in EL qualifying. Whilst the margin of their defeat today was a surprise, the result was not given Dinamo is certainly a stronger opponent than Copenhagen. Italian teams often have difficulties dealing with the intensity of teams on the continent.

Atalanta played worse than Genk on Tuesday.

Serie A getting 4 clubs is too much as is the BL, what’s a bigger joke is these leagues probably want 6 in the next reform. UEFA did this so the Milan clubs can get it yet they are still inept while Germany in all honesty only has three Euro level clubs at this level...the likes of Schalke, Leverkusen, Gladbach and Hoffenheim are EL level at best

While it’s a nice story for Atalanta go get in or Getafe almost getting in I’d rather see domestic champions, regardless where they are from but that won’t sell to the Asian/Middle East market, we gotta see the same matchups all the time

You mean in 2013 or some shit, right?

Great stuff...did you highlights from Krasnodar by any chance? Looked like blatant matchfixing, the mistakes leading to goals were so bad. Worth watching for the laughs

Glad he got his career back on track, seeing him benched @ West Brom a few years ago was cringeworthy
