FC Petržalka 1898 thread

Okay, so I found out they aren't called Artmedia any more and they're playing in the Slovak 2nd division.

How are they doing so far? Who are their key players? And what the **** happened to them in the first place, winning everything 2 years ago to get to this?

Petržalka is historically 2nd tier team, with exception of last 10-15 years, but don´t let yourself fooled, their A-team was top but other than that, this club is embodied mediocrity.

They were rising together with their owner Mr.Ivan Kmotrík (his assets are estimated on 400m Eur). He´s football enthusiast who invested a lot into the club with limited fanbase, average youth programme and lovely but small stadium and got them to the Slovakian top. Two yeas ago, Mr.Kmotrík got an opportunity to become an owner of more famous club with bigger fanbase, Slovan Bratislava, and decided to switch Petržalka for Slovan.

New people in Petržalka´s managment (Vl.Bajan, Petržalka mayor, J.Vengloš jr player´s agent etc) are ambitious but not financially strong enough to bring the club back on top of Slovak football. Their old stadium (the oldest football stadium in Slovakia btw) is going to be demolished for future construction developments, they are renters on Rapid Bratislava venue. Their U19 & U17 teams play 2nd div football only. With their lack of funds and youth success, not mentioning no stadium, I doubt they´ll ever return to top tier football.

Thanks for the info.

Still hoping they can get promoted back to the Corgon(?) Liga...

OT, but I think theres not going to be Corgon liga in future, they are planning united league with Czechs and UEFA has given their blessing to the idea, I think.

Just looked up where they are currently in the First League. 2nd, but 13 points behind the first team means their chances of promotion don't seem quite good

On the German wiki stands this...

Petržalka ist einer der traditionsreichsten und stärksten Fußballvereine der Slowakei.

Tradition only from the past decade?
I guess they must have some kind of fanbase, not like Slovan and Trnava, but perhaps after them, where about do they come in terms of fans?

The English wiki says this about their stadium

The club is playing its home matches at Štadión Rapid in Prievoz - part of Bratislava. The club's home ground, which is Štadión Petržalka, is not currently in use. But a new stadium is being built, placed in Ovsište, part of Bratislava Petržalka.

How is the current situation with their new stadium, any developments, is it really going to be built or do they still have to start?

Also, why exactly do they not use the old one anymore? Is it already demolished? What's going to be build on that place?

According original plans, Artmedia stadium should be dismantled and usable parts of steel construction shall be used for other stadium. Stadium was originally planned to be replaced by 7-storeys & 200-rooms Hotel Hilton, Congress Center and 220 appartments, but economical crisis seems to slow down that projects because nothing still happened there, bar the obvious deterioration.

Ooh that's looking bad, is there any chance Petrzalka are going to move back to their own area?

Also, do you know if they still have a (fanatic) fanbase visiting them in the Rapid stadium?

Welcome back btw, didn't notice you were on holiday, read it a few days ago in the Slovan thread, you had a good holiday?

Thanks mate, I had wonderfull time in Turkey

I think you confused Artmedia fanbase with Slovan´s, it was Slovan that played vs Rapid some 3-4 years ago. Was at this game.

Artmedia fanbase is small and cultivated compared to Slovan. And no, no chance of returning back to old stadium.

Oh no I mean I know Slovan and Trnava have the biggest fanbase in Slovakia, but are Petrzalka's matches at the Rapid stadium still visited by a good amount of visitors or is the club nearly dead now they don't play 'at home' anymore?

Meanwhile, are Petrzalka playing in a new own stadium? Where it is located, in Petrzalka? Also, what's the story behind it, anyone knows that? Thanks!

It´s their new stadium in Ovsište, Petržalka. Inaugurated on August 5th vs Nitra reserves, 3rd division.

Wow they're in 3rd division nowadays! Too bad... at least good news they've got a new home of their own, hopefully it's the beginning of a new start which will bring them back upwards.

Agreed, 3rd is a bit too low, they should play better competition.

I remember their fans going cocky and blaming club´s owner for lack of european ambitions, after they sold several players in winter 2005/6, before their EL tie with Levski. Times are quickly changing in football nowadays.

Ouch that's really a huge pity .

I'm really happy I went there last year despite it was in a bad state...
