Juraj Kucka, Genoa

If you could compare him to something, what player you choose ?

As for me, I say Gerrard. Not quality-wise, because there isn´t many on this Planet to be compared to Gerrrar, I mean they are similar in style.

Same robust stature, cracking shot form outside the box, strong in the air, above-average passer.

Yesterday stole the ball to DeRossi and showed his excellent vision by sending neat pass pass to Vittek.

Prem duo track Kucka
Slovakia international also attracting interest across Europe

Sparta Prague midfielder Juraj Kucka is being tracked by two Premier League clubs, according to his agent.

The 23-year-old was one of the stars of Sparta's triumph in the Czech top-flight and has also caught the eye during this summer's World Cup finals.

The Slovakia international, who can play as a defensive midfielder but has also shown his attacking prowess in South Africa, has previously been linked with Birmingham City, Hertha Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen.

And Kucka's agent Emil Kovarovic claims a Serie A club has entered the race for his client's signature.

"We have registered one specific offer from an Italian club," Kovarovic told SITA.

"Besides this one there has also been interest in Juraj from two English clubs and from German clubs. All these clubs play in the top leagues in their country."
No offers

Sparta Prague have said they would like to keep hold of Kucka but would be willing to cash in on the highly-rated Slovak if an 'interesting' offer is made.

"I am sure that some European clubs will be willing to capture him, but so far we have not received any specific offer," said Sparta spokesman Ondrej Kasik

"Therefore, we cannot speculate on how much we would demand for his transfer.

"Juraj is a very important player which he showed mainly in the last season. After his return from South Africa (on Thursday), we count on him joining us and helping us in the Champions League qualification.

"If we receive an interesting offer which would satisfy the player, we will release him."

Kucka is linked with several italian & english teams so his move duing next transfer window is more than expecetd, especiall with only 12 months left on his contact.

Genoa, Palermo, Lazio, Parma, Sunderland, Birmingham and Blackburrn are among those who would be interested

Michal Petrak worked for Czech football monthly ‘Hattrick’ for 9 years, and has now moved to ‘Sport’ a Czech daily, where he has been for the last 1.5 years. He has also commentated on the Premier League, Champions League and various other competitions, including the last two World Cups & European Championships, for Czech TV station ‘Nova Sport’.Here’s what he had to say…

Michal: I would say Kucka is one of the best players bought by Sparta in recent years. He is a dynamic midfielder who came in January 2009 from top Slovak team Ruzomberok and quickly became a key player for Sparta in their quest for 2009/10 league title. He is very powerful and has a fine shot and his attitude and determination are excellent. This year he played around 50 matches (incl. internationals), more than any other Sparta player. According to rumours, more clubs are after him for January transfer window – several Italian (Genoa, Lazio, Parma, Palermo) or English (SAFC, Blackburn, Birmingham) ones. This autumn his performances suffered by lack of summer holidays – he joined Sparta pre-season camp almost immediately after the World Cup and sometimes the tiredness could be seen.

From reading Wikipedia, it says he’s Roy Keane-esque. Do they mean in the way he controls a game, or does he have a fiery temper?

Michal: I would say both explanations are true. When he has his day, he can control a game like no other player in the Czech league. He is physically strong and determined and can really rule in the midfield. Fiery temper is also his characteristic – I do not know whether he would be able to hurt someone deliberately (like Keane hurt Haaland), but he is very stubborn, has enormous will to win and when he feels injustice or wrong-doing, he can turn really angry.

Kucka made the World Cup squad for Slovakia without playing a qualifying game. Was this due to injury to another player, or does he have “super sub” or “wildcard” ability?
Michal: It is true Slovakia missed their captain, midfielder Miroslav Karhan, but I am convinced Kucka would have made the squad irrespective of that. He had a very strong spring half of season and showed really terrific performances at Slovak pre-WC friendlies. He really deserved that and was one of the best Slovak players in South Africa. He is a simple man (which I do not mean to dishonest him) and does not let pressure get to him. He plays without nerves at any stage.

Who is he most similar to in the Sunderland squad, in his style of play?
Michal: I would say he is a hybrid of Lee Cattermole and Jordan Henderson – powerful, fierce tackler with a strong drive forward and eye for important goals. On the other hand, his performances are sometimes rather uneven, which could be explained by his age (23) and aforementioned lack of rest during summer.

The price we’ve been reading is between 3 & 4 million Euros. Would that represent a bargain for Sunderland or is it over paying?
Michal: More of a bargain. If he stabilises his form on his WC2010 level, he could be worth much more. When I compare him to Paul Konchesky, who cost Liverpool 4m Euros, Kucka is a better player with better potential.

Should Kucka sign, do you think he will adapt well to the rigors of the English game?

Michal: I think Premier League or the Bundesliga are two competitions he is best suited for. He will have to work on his speed and stable performances (as I mentioned higher) and the step from Czech league to Premier League is a huge one, but I can see him fit there when he gets used to the speed of play. The intensity of matches should be no problem for him.

Sunderland in pole position to land 3m-rated Slovakia star Juraj Kucka

Sam Allardyce's dismissal at Blackburn has left Sunderland in pole position to land Slovakia's Juraj Kucka, instrumental in Italy's World Cup exit. Allardyce and Sunderland boss Steve Bruce have watched the Sparta Prague midfielder closely, aware there are just 12 months left on his contract and he could be signed for £3million next month. Typical Sparta idiocy, no surprises there at all, the player is worth at least double that amount, but Sparta management doesn't have either brains or patience to wait. Forget CL!!!

Kucka had only 1 year of contract remaining and Sparta could easily end up with empty hands if they weren´t sold him quickly.

Kucka already signed 4.5 yrs contract with Genoa btw

Not a surprise here, the player has the proper mentality to succeed in Seria A/EPL, I see him as Slovakia's captain in the future, he won't disappear like Hamsik. Sparta are total fools for selling him for 100mm koruna, some stupid magical number
