Vladimir Weiss sr - former Slovakia Manager

Reports in Scotland are claiming that Weiss will be the next manager of Hearts. I don't know much about him, other than that his team once destroyed Celtic 5-0 and that he had a mediocre spell at Saturn in Russia. Any info on his character, what sort of football/tactics he likes, etc, would be greatly appreciated

tactics- depends on opponent. In ChL Artmedia played bunker 4-5-1, in Corgonliga usually 4-4-2.

Do you think he is a good manager? Is he respected in Slovakia?

Best Slovakian manager since Venglos. He's too good for our league, highly respected, so it's no surprise to see foreign interest.

Very disciplined, organized and astute manager. Won't play enthralling football, but will get results.

He's rumoured to be next NT manager. I'm surprised it took you this long to fire Kocian. But I hope you take Chovanec for NT job as he's rumoured to be back with Czech NT :smileani:

There's much probable Vladimir Weiss will be a new coach of...Legia Warszawa. Apparently he was watching from stands their yesterday match against Gornik Zabrze. Weiss will be probably working both with Legia and Slovakian NT.

That's right, but it seems he didn't get any concrete offers from Russia and decided to interest in Legia's one. Although there's also other possibility, that he was on Gornik - Legia match because of Jez & Gasparik, that's also quite reasonable version.

Superficially Legia's offer doesn't look too bad - team from the Polish capital, one of the most meritorious in Poland, people mentality and the language are near to Slovakian, quite rich sponsor, great stadium with fanatic supporters and quite high attendance, football academy on better and better level year by year, assurance of membership in EL competition and probably also not bad earnings.

Legia has some potential and such great coach would be excellent for them, no doubt of that. Simply they must change almost all management in own club on people, who feel football in right way and have proper knowledge about managing football club.

I“m quite curious how it ends up. Weiss has an approval from FA he can work on club“s level alongside his NT duties, and he“s eager to get a full-time job.

I would absolutely like to see what Weiss, Sr. is capable of doing from a club level. I think he has the management skills and is able to get the pulse of the team (much like he did with Slovakia pre- and during World Cup) that would interest a club in taking a chance on him. It would be interesting indeed.

Weiss won't be Legia's coach, as Legia's director of sports said several minutes ago "that's true we were negotiating with Weiss, but we could not accept his volition of combining work in Legia with slovakian national team". End of stroy

Edit:
Of course the words of Legia's director are typical "blablabla", that's obvious they didn't manage to fulfill Weiss's expectations...

in 2005 he managed to eliminate Celtic (5:0, 0:4), Partizan Bg (on pens after two goalless draws), and enter the CL“s group stage where he defeated Porto away and drew them at home, and drew Gl.Rangers twice.

Then he managed Saturn Moscow Oblast, russian RPL team, before taking NT job.

Selfishly, I would prefer for Weiss to concentrate solely on the NT...

I think that modern coach can work on both levels, club and NT. We live in era of internet, satellites etc so every NT coach can see like 10 games with his players each weekend without leaving his living room and can make perfect judgment from watching tv rather than wasting time & money for lenghty travelling from game to game, seeing max 2 games per weekend. Teams like Slovakia, based on foreign players, are never easy to scout unlike Germany, Italy, England or Spanish NT“s. These NT“s using 90% of domestic-based players.

Vladimir Weiss is a candidate for the vacant Dinamo Zagreb job. Dinamo this time are considering a foreigner.

How can he even be a candidate for the Dinamo head coach spot when he's already the manager of two teams (Slovan & Slovakia)?

As a NT coach he takes 40k/month + his Slovan salary. No idea how much takes Dynamo coach, but Dynamo bench isnt exactly the safest job in the universe whilst his Slovakia/Slovan jobs are quite safe atm. No idea how much is Mamič willing to throw after coach, but in case of Weiss only lucrative offer has a chance to lure him away from the easy +50k/months he takes here.

Halilhodzic made 800K euros, but he was a pretty high profile manager for Dinamo standards (coached in France and coached Ivory Coast prior to Dinamo).

The most recent Dinamo coach, Kruno Jurcic, was making about 180K, about the same what Bilic makes with the NT. Doing a quick search of recent coaches, seems like 180-250K was the norm, until they broke the bank for Halilhodzic
