My weekly rant!

27th May 1965: Over 16,000 days.

"For a moment there I returned to my youth, the early youth, when all nice illusions were gathered together. Then life came and, like a strong wind, blew them away, one by one. What we call happiness is sometimes the accordance between our life and circumstances, our biography and history, our personal aspirations and historical currents. If I look at things that way, I can say: I was born too early to be happy. But birth is one of the many things we do not get to choose. It is part of our destiny."

Arfy - really depends what you want/need. Obviously portability is your main concern, but what sort of work are you doing and what sort of applications do you require?

Windows Tablets are still quite young, and an iPad can probably do most of what you need from it.

You other option is to look into the ultrabook market, which will give you the flexibility (application wise) of a regular laptop but with more portability. I think they're largely redundant now, in the same way tablets have made netbooks almost redundant, but ultrabooks are getting a lot cheaper these days so still an option to consider.

Another reason why removing the start menu is ridiculous - the change in Vista and 7 to have it display recent documents/files categorised by your most used applications was great. For example, like this screenshot I randomly found on Google, which shows the recent websites the user has browsed with Internet Explorer.

That functionality is very, very useful, so to remove it (by removing the start menu) and not come up with an alternate way to use it was a bad move.

I shouldn't need to pin Excel, Word, NotePad and every other application I want to see recently used files for to my taskbar.
