Efes Pilsen Cup

There is pre-season training in Russia now, and the best Russian club Spartak Moscow take part in big tournament - Efes Pilsen Cup in Antalia.

The first match Spartak played yesterday (you could watch the game on Eurosport) vs Galatasaray. Fans was intrested to see two CL competitiors play. Teams showed some attacking football in the 1st half, but to watch the match was boring. Spartak played like sh.it, especially in defence. Seems like old problems will never be decided.

The best player in Russian squad was Beschastnyh (scored 2, but 1 goal was writed on Vasilyuk). In Gala`s team I want to mention Sergen`s perfomance - very impressive.

Galatasaray - Spartak 1-2

Beschastnyh, (4 min) 0-1
Sergen, (29 min) 1-1
Vasilyk, (57 min) 1-2

The next match Spartak will play vs Bremen on January, 12th.

Great idea Laska!

I have a question, how are the Serbs doing in your league, I mean Obradovic, Vucicevic (Lokomotiv) and some others like Kruscic?

Thank`s guys!

Drulic, Lokomotiv`s managers and fans are very happy they had signed Obradovic. He showed great spirit and skills last season. Russian press sure: if club want to sign a foreigner - his level has to be just like Obradovic has. I think this guy is in TOP 15 of foreigners, playing in Russia.

Vucicevic improved too, but he`s not a starter yet. Next season, I guess, he will make to starting 11, cause there are some changes in Loko now.

About other Serbs is hard to tell you, cause last season only Obradovic showed himself, others didn`t. Hope, next season (starts in March-April) they will make it much better.

BTW, I know that Spartak is planing to sign a Romaninan! Michail Pank from "Extensiv" (spelling?) plays for Romanian youth NT. Looks like big prospect.

Thanks for the info Laska, I agree on Obradovic he's a great player, a versatile defender who's also an international. I hope Vucicevic makes his breakthrough next year cause he's also a fairly talented player.

It's seems to have become a new trend, Serb players in the Russian league, this winter Rasovic (ex-Partizan) and some other player signed.

Yep, great idea. good luck.
And a couple of questions on Lokomotiv:

1) How bad did they take the loss to Hapoel?
2) What about that Pimenov guy, has he been linked with other teams yet?

"Stop and stare...I think I'm moving but I go nowhere...."

Obradovic impressed me in this years CL.

Laska, I have a soft spot for Krylya Sovetov Samara for years now and last season (with Tikhonov) was quite promising. Do you think KS will be able to compete for the championship 2002?

First of all breaking news. One more Romanian is linked with Spartak. It`s Styaua (spelling?) midfielder Eric Linkar. He was in Romanian NT at EURO2000, but he didn`t played a single match.

Raanan, the loss to Hapoel was disappointing, but everybody understood that situation. By that games Loko finished the season a month ago, so they just couldn`t be on top of the form. And even in such poor conditions they have chances to go through. No offence, but if Loko and Hapoel played in September, when Loko played in CL, I think you had a little chances to survive. Of course, Loko isn`t a superclub or something but their perfomance in CL proves they was an intresting squad. In both matches vs Roma they played not worse, than Italians. Bravo! So, calm down with Hapoel domination. Absolutely ah ah!

No news about Pimenov yet.

Viola, yes, last season KS surprised a lot of fans and specialists. Tikhonov and Buznikin was awesome. Hard to say will they improve next season or not. It`s need to see how they will do in pre-season trainings. But I think they can get into TOP 10 for sure. BTW, it`s new power is coming - Uralan FC. They signed some good players, they have a good coach and their target next season is to get into TOP 5. Will see. Hard to do it, but nothing is imposible.

That's alwasy a good idea to attract xtratimers from different countries - that is what makes discussions hotter . I've always lacked Russian members here. IMO that's one of the reasons why Russian players always fail to win any EE forum polls .

Do you mean Uralan Elista? I think they are quite a small club, how can they afford such players?

Spartak won, but very unimpressive. Of course it can be explained by the finish of the season in Russia. But still...
Sergen was great. His goal was wonderful.
Indeed, the style of Spartak game is very old, and it is needed to be changed. Though Lokomotiv is a second team in Russia, but they look much better, and the soccer they play in Europe is much more modern rather than Spartak's...
Anyway good luck Spartak.

Viola, yes, Uralan Elista. The thing is: Kalmykia (Elista) region senator Kirsan Ilyumzhinov (BTW, he`s FIDE (chess federation) president) is intrested in creating a strong football squad in Elista. That`s why Uralan has some money to spend.

He started with signing a new coach - very experienced specialist Sergey Pavlov. Pavlov works in Uralan more than a year, and already have signed 28 players!

The best are:

Dmitry Vyazmikin (ex-Torpedo, last season top scorer) and Igor Chugainov (ex-Lokomotiv captain). Also 5-6 good level Russian players was signed. So, as you can see Uralan is pretty intresting team on paper. How will they play on the pitch nobody will tell you yet.

Russian clubs continue the race of signing our EE brothers.

Spartak want to sign a Croatian - Mato Neretlyak. Dinamo Moscow is very happy about two Chechs perfomance. Seems like Martin Hisky and Eric Brabec will stay in Dinamo. All three players are defenders.

Former Dinamo Moscow keeper Dmitry Kramarenko has accepted a trial with Spanish second-division side Atletico Madrid. "No decision will be made until Luis Aragones has seen me play," explained the Azerbaijan international.
