European cups 08/09

Intertoto second round

Saturn-Fc Etzella(Lux)-7-0(Kirichenko 2,35,70,71,Angbwa 13,Topic 18,A.Ivanov 66)

Great debut for Saturn in european cups,Kirichenko with four goals.....now Stuttgart.

FC Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast 7-0 FC Etzella Ettelbrück
Former Russian international striker Dmitri Kirichenko was the hero in Ramenskoye, scoring four times in a comprehensive defeat of the visitors from Luxembourg. European debutants Saturn put at least one foot into the third round – and a meeting with VfB Stuttgart – thanks to Kirichenko's two goals in each half, including a second-minute opener. Benoît Angbwa, Marko Topic and Alexey Ivanov were also on target.

FC Etzella Ettelbrück 1–1 FC Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast (agg: 1-8)
Following a 7-0 victory in the first leg, Saturn coach Boris Ignatiev shuffled his pack to give several fringe players a chance to impress. After a goalless first half, the hosts from Luxembourg reduced the deficit to six goals when Claudio Da Luz headed in a corner after 71 minutes. However, that advantage was short-lived as Leonid Kovel equalised for the Russian club with a curling free-kick. Saturn go on to face Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart for a place in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.

Saturn beats Stuttgart 1-0 final score.

Not a bad result though i don't know if it is good for Russia uefa ranking to have Saturn in the second qual round of the uefa cup..likely not.

Stuttgart succumb to slick Saturn

Dmitri Kirichenko's third-minute goal was sufficient to earn Gadzhi Gadzhiev's side an important first-leg advantage against the 2006/07 Bundesliga champions.

Early winner
Although Armin Veh's team only finished sixth last term, they represented a formidable opponent to the UEFA club competition debutants. Yet the Premier-Liga outfit adapted quickly to the task and their early vigour was rewarded with what proved to be the winning goal. The 31-year-old, who scored four times in 12 games for Russia earlier in his career, met Alexey Ivanov's low cross from the touchline to give the hosts a dream start.

Stolz save
The visitors had several opportunities to restore parity before the break but it was Saturn's Alexei Eremenko Jr who spurned the best chance of the opening 45 minutes when Kirichenko's pass released the Finnish international only for him to strike his shot against the leg of goalkeeper Alexander Stolz in a one-on-one situation.

Marica denied
After the interval, the visitors took the initiative again and on 55 minutes Ciprian Marica had an excellent opportunity to equalise. The Romania forward beat Luiz Ricardo Da Silva and Saturn goalkeeper Antonín Kinský, but the defender recovered in time to stop Marica finishing into the empty net.

Post rattled
Kirichenko nearly doubled his tally on 64 minutes but his shot from Benoît Angbwa's pass struck the post and bounced into Stolz's arms. Chances proved hard to come by for the remainder, with both sides arguably satisfied to carry the result forward to the second leg in Germany on 27 July.

Kirichenko cautious about Saturn voyage

FC Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast striker Dmitri Kirichenko is wary of the threat UEFA Intertoto Cup third-round opponents VfB Stuttgart pose as the Russian club bid to reach the UEFA Cup for the first time.

Match-winner
Kirichenko scored the only goal in the third minute of last week's first leg in Ramenskoye to give European debutants Saturn a slender lead to protect in Germany on Sunday, as well as going on to strike the post during the second half. The 31-year-old, though, is not writing off the 2006/07 Bundesliga champions having witnessed just how close Armin Veh's team came to grabbing an away goal during a lively first encounter.

Attacking threat
"Despite the loss, Stuttgart did not play badly in the first game," Kirichenko told uefa.com. "They attacked really well and had enough good scoring chances. This is quite a strong team with its own style. For me it is obvious – they just haven't hit their top form yet."

Warm-up win
Nevertheless, the 12-times capped Russia forward insists the victory and the concession of no away goals represented a "good result" as the Premier-Liga outfit seek to become the first Russian club to win a UEFA Intertoto Cup. Saturn made it a pair of good results on Wednesday when they recorded their biggest domestic success of the season in defeating relegation threatened FC Shinnik Yaroslavl 4-0 at home to ensure they travel to southern Germany full of confidence.

'Secondary' prize
Kirichenko starred on Saturn's European bow in the second round first leg against Luxembourg's FC Etzella Ettelbrück, scoring four of his side's seven goals without reply. That haul coupled with his winner last week means the former PFC CSKA Moskva player tops the competition's goalscoring charts in its final year, but Kirichenko says it is team and not individual accomplishments which matter to him most. "Well, that's nice, but that is just an addition to the team's achievements," he added. "The most important thing is to win. All the statistics are secondary."

Saturn have made it into ET, but a goal from them would be totally against the run of play. Stuttgart look fresher.

Saturn don't look like they can score a goal but there is some small hope while the Stuttgart centreback Delpiere is on the pitch. He is crap and prone to silly mistakes and rash play. Best they can hope for probably is penalties and even then Stuttgart would be favourite for the spotkicks.
